1. WHAT IS COVID-19?
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is defined as an illness caused by a novel
coronavirus that is now called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2
(SARS-CoV-2) – Medscape, WHO.int

 Coronaviruses (CoVs) are a group of highly diverse, enveloped,


positive‐sense, and single‐stranded RNA viruses
 Has a genetic feature
 Its major route of transmission of COVID-19 is droplet and close
contact. It is also known to be detected in tears.
 Evidences shows COVID-19 has a zoonotic source, and that it is likely
originated in bats. Many researchers have been able to look at the
genomic features and have found that it does not support that SARS-
CoV-2 is a laboratory construct.

2. EPIDEMIOLOGI
 It was first identified in an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City,
Hubei Province, China which was initially reported to the WHO on December 31,
2019.
 On January 30, 2020, WHO declared COVID_19 outbreak a global health
emergency
 On March 31 2020, WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
 Based on WHO as of 3 July 2020, there have been 10,662, 536 globally
confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 516,209 deaths.
