?????

1. If one kmol of methane is stored in a 0.3 m3 tank at 300K, estimate the pressure of
the gas using Redlich - Kwong equation of state. The critical constants of methane
are
Pc = 4.6 × 106 Pa and Tc = 190.6 K. [16]

2. (a) Discuss chemical potential as a criterion for phase equilibrium.

(b) Define the following partial molar properties :
Internal energy, Enthalpy, Entropy, Gibbs energy. [8+8]

3. Show that for virial equation of state

GR

ρ
+ (z − 1) − 1n z [16]
0

4. Write short notes on:

(a) Two forms of virial equation

(b) Ideal gas behavior
(c) mplied property relations for an ideal gas. [4+4+8]

5. Discuss in detail about different metabolic routes to secondary metabolites. [16]

6. Estimate the consumption of 96 % NaCl and 93 % H2SO4 for the production of

500 kg of HCl if the conversion is 92 %. Estimate the amount of Na2 SO4 produced
during the process. Make material balance after the reaction.
2 Nacl + H2 SO4 = Na2 SO4 + 2HCl
The molecular weights are Nacl = 58.5; H2 SO4 = 98; Na2SO4 =142; HCl = 36.5.
