Resistance in Seies and Parallel NUMERICALS
numericals
1. Draw a schematic diagram of a circuit consisting of 24v battery a 10ohm resistor, a 5 ohm
resistor,a 1 ohm resistor an ammeter and a plug key all connected in series .
Calculate the ammeter reading in this circuit.
. R=10+5+1=16ohm
V=24V
I=V/R
=24/16=1.5A
2. What is the maximum resistance which can be made using five resistors each of 1/5Ω.
3. What is the minimum resistance which can be made using five resistors of 1/5Ω.
4. Study the following electric circuit and find (i) the current flowing in the circuit and (ii) the
potential difference across 10 Ω resistor .
5. Resistors are given as R1=10Ω , R2=20Ω and R3=30Ω. Calculate the effective resistance when
they are connected in series. Also calculate the current flowing when the combination is
connected to 6V battery .
6. A 9Ω resistance is cut into three equal parts and connected in parallel. Find the equivalent
resistance of the combination.
NUMERICALS
Example 1: There are three resistors joined in series in a system having resistance equal to 10 Ω,
20Ω and 30 Ω respectively. If the potential difference of the circuit is 240 V, find the total
resistance and current through the circuit.
According to Ohm’s Law Total resistance in series (R) = Sum of resistance of all resistors
Or, R=10Ω+20Ω+30Ω= 60Ω
Or, I=240V÷60Ω= 4A
