Q1. A contractor wants to investigate using a 6S blade on D6H dozer. the material is dry non
cohesive silty sand, and it is to be moved at 200 feet from the beginning of the cut. The dozing
is uphill on a 10% grade the operator will have average skill, the dozer has a power shift
transmission, and both visibility and traction are assumed to be satisfactory. The material
weighs 110 pcf in the bank state. Job efficiency is assumed to be equivalent to a 50 minute-
hour. Calculate the direct cost of proposed earth moving operation in Rupees per BCY. Assume
the operation cost of the dozer is Rs 5000 /hour and the operator’s wage is Rs1200 /hour plus
35% for the fringe’s workman compensation etc.

Q2. A contract is being bid to clear and grub 155 acres. You are considering the cost associated
with using a 335-horse power dozer. The dozer’s operation cost is Rs7000 /hour, the wage
determination for the operator is Rs1500 /hour with fringes. Project overhead will run Rs
5000 /work day assume a 10 hour-day. A field engineer has made a site visit and provide you
with the following information.
The site is reasonably leveled, and the machine will have no problem with bearing or traction.
About 10% of the trees are pine and rest are oak. The number of trees/acres is about 450.
210 trees/acre are 1 to 2 feet in diameter
90 trees/acre are 2 to 3 feet in diameter
10 trees/acre are 3 to 4 feet in diameter.
You plan to clear and grub in one operation and then to follow with pilling up in the wind rows
and burning.
a. What is the estimated clearing and grubbing production rate?
b. What is the cost associated with the total operation including overhead when only 335
horse-power dozer is used?
c. Which option is cheaper employing single or multiple, 335 horse-power dozer?
Q3. Explain the pitching, tilting and angling of bulldozer blade?
