TIMELESS BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES IN AN ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURE 2

Introduction

The business world keeps on changing. International markets gain and lose, economies

become great and fall too. For survival, any business venture needs to constantly plan and

readjust to the evolving conditions. Amidst this continuous change in business concepts and

aspects, some things remain constant. There are biblical principles from the Bible, authored by

God that surpass time, place, individuals and any business culture and contains all the best

business secrets for the success of any venture and its sustainability. These principles are known

as Timeless Principles (Raichur, n.d.). This paper discusses how to apply timeless biblical

principles in a wedding planning business and how they can be crucial in transforming this

business venture. These principles are discussed below;

Prepare Well Before Launching

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost,

whether he has enough to finish it- Lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish

it, all who see it begin to mock him. ‘Saying, this man began to build what is not able to finish.”

(Luke 14:28-30, NKJ). As the Bible puts it, to propel any business to success, one has to prepare

sufficiently lest you will be a reference for failure.

To enable the success of our wedding planning business, a thorough preparation before

its launch should be carried out. The research on the business idea, model, plan and the market

should be a priority. Entrepreneurs do turn great ideas into great businesses. However, this will

require the entrepreneur's input and skills to develop and innovate great business models and

opportunities (Gupta, & Singh, 2016).

Doing business in a Godly manner

“This book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day

and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make

your way prosperous, and then you will have great success” (Joshua 1:8, NKJ). After duly

preparations, strategic decisions must be made. This will include a decision on whom to run the

business with, the ambition of future company size, means of funding and exit or transitions

plans (Raichur, n.d.).

As for the wedding planning business with my partner, we tend to do all these decisions

in a Godly manner. Whilst is good to consider many studies and seminars that have been carried

out about the entrepreneurial mindset, the application of Biblical principles should be at the core

in the development of any business venture (Gupta, & Singh, 2016). As a Christian based

company, we trust the law of sowing and reaping. In the book of 2Corinthians 9:6, the Bible

states “But this I say: he who sows sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap

bountifully,” as per the New King James Version. For any subsequent success of any venture,

patience must be practiced while waiting for the seeds planted to yield outputs.

Finally, for any Christian business venture, trusting in the Spirit of the Lord for

empowerment is paramount. Even if the start-up is of small beginnings, bountiful harvests

happen in the future if the business is operated in a Godly way. God helps in laying the business

foundation and therefore, He will work towards achievements of set goals and objectives.

Trust the system

“An inheritance gained easily at the beginning will not be blessed at the end” (Proverbs

20:21, NKJ). This timeless principle advocate we should remain focused on our goals, vision,

and objectives set while holding on with our values. A business venture can reach high limits in

quick succession, but that should not distract the owners from what they were set out to perform.

In the book of Psalm 62:10, God says we should not turn our hope to robbery or other forms of

corruption to increase our riches, and even if we become rich, we should not make too much of it

(Raichur, n.d.).

Profits consideration

A man with an evil eye hastens after riches and does not consider that poverty will come

upon him (Proverbs 28:22, NKJ). For a Christian company to succeed, it must resist taking any

shortcuts to hasten profit-making profits. Values and principles should not be compromised just

for business success as it may have adverse effects in the future. Instead, entrepreneurs should

desire to work with partners with visions as the book of Ephesians 3:20 says “Now to Him who

can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works

in us.”

Success control

“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18, NKJ).

When a business venture grows and prospers, pride should be desisted, as it is destructive and

hazardous. Instead, entrepreneurs should hold on to the Lord’s principles and always

acknowledge God for all the blessings. When success looms, managers should work now on

capital projects to sustain the business in the future. In the wedding planning business, tents,

chairs, vehicles and other forms of decorators of high quality can be purchased that can last for a

longer period unto the future (Raichur, n.d.).

Empowering others

“Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like the

mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds.

But when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes the tree, so that the bird of the air

come and nest in its branches” (Matthew 13:31-32, NKJ). One aspect of any business is that it

usually starts small but grows up to serve a much bigger purpose than what it was perceived in

its earlier stages. This timeless principle is useful to remind business owners that after God

prospers a business, He intends the business to serve more than it was anticipated. This includes

giving back to society and helping in public service delivery.

Business Transformation

After applying the timeless principles in the business, it will create a huge change and

transformation, not only to its customers but also to society. We intend to use timeless principles

in our wedding planning business to bring change and the lives of people in South Carolina. This

can be achieved through a culture change. In an industry with corruption and other vices, our

business can step out to demonstrate integrity and challenge others to do so. The golden rule of

treating and helping people first should always be a top priority (Tripathy, 2019).

In conclusion, a business set in Christian values should be able to transform and bring

positive change to the lives of its employees and the society. Our wedding planning business will

not only cover engaged persons but will also include people renewing their vows or ones

searching for love and wedding advice. For success and business development, Timeless biblical

principles remains the best counsel.
