102092 Secondary curriculum 2C – Assessment 2

The adjustments and annotations made to the unit’s learning plan showcase the incorporation
formative assessments. This is achieved throughout the weeks to assess and check their
understanding and skills of the studied material consistently. The amendments included
effective quizzes, comprehension specific questions and responses, worksheets, digital
creations. This is achieved to measure and increase their understanding and learning progress.
Here, formative assessments provide opportunities for learners to improve on their
weaknesses, enhancing “the learning process’’ (Ketabi, 2014, p.437). For instance,
introducing and explaining Spanish interrogative tools and assessing their understanding
through learners’ actively utilising them in peer interactions, such as interviews, surveys,
dialogues and completing specific comprehensions questions in worksheets, meeting
outcomes LSP4-6U and LSP4-7U. The diverse students’ use of questioning tools, vocabulary,
responses and presenting it indicate whether they have understood the material or require
providing “additional instructions” and feedback, improving “the learning and teaching
process” (Fisher & Frey, 2014, p.7). In this case, the consistent incorporation of diverse
formative assessments throughout the unit expands students’ skills and knowledge and paves
the way to achieving the communicative goal effectively. As well, learners reading and
engaging with diverse texts, watching videos that includes allocating information and
responding to questions LSP4-2C, and the responses deriving from these activities are
utilised as formative assessment of Spanish knowledge.

Furthermore, formative assessments are also achieved through the ‘Activate’ (ESA) stage of
the lessons, which includes forming digital creations that reflects on what is learned and
transferring it efficiently and engagingly. For instance, the learning of Spanish language
forms and features and diverse vocabulary is to be transferred in creating mind-maps, diary
entry, family members structures, diagrams and a letter. The digital evidence of learning of
applying learned knowledge operates as a tool of formative assessments to check their level
of understanding and thinking regarding ‘Study’ (ESA) stage of the unit. These diverse
opportunities made for students to demonstrate their skills not only improve language
understandings and comprehension but allow for showing competence in creative ways
(Fisher & Frey, 2014). By assessing students’ learning in various ways enables for gaining
essential skills, effective evidence of learning and opportunity to improve students’ learning
experience.
