Career Road Map – What’s the plan?

Location: Conference Room – Afternoon

The new employee finishes a presentation and then turns around to focus on the
conference table. The new employee is at one end, looking at Marina, Phillip and
Justine. The room smiles and claps.

Justine (while seated)


Great job! Fantastic work.

Various members can offer words of congratulations.

Phillip
The way you incorporated our data into that graph - I
hadn’t considered using the data that way.

Philip smiles and pats the new employee on the shoulder. He turns around to exit. Other
member also get up from their seats and depart. Marina straggles behind.

Marina
Spot on. Keep it up!

Marina exits the conference room. Camera focuses on her as she leaves, then adjusts
back to Justine who has stood up and approached camera.

Justine (sincere)
You fielded those questions very professionally. You
could have spoken a little louder and more slowly, but it’s just
something to work on.

(looks to slides, POV catches profile)

I know you haven’t been with us too long, but based on the work
you’ve done and continue to do - I think there’s a bright future
ahead for you. Your attention to detail and execution are definite
assets.
(turns back to the new employee)

The new employee nods ’yes’. Justine gestures to the conference table and goes to
close the door. The new employee takes a seat as Justine returns to sit at the table.

Justine
Just curious, what’s your five-year plan? Is mobile
sales technology an industry you’re super passionate
about?

(pauses, looks for response)

It’s - It’s completely fine. It takes time to figure this


stuff out. Do you prefer the creative side of things or
work that’s more analytical? Could you see yourself
becoming a manager one day or would you prefer to
stay on the technical side of things?

(pauses, inquisitive)

I mean, you have given some thought about your


future career, right.
