Research:
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) is a state-of-
the-art cancer centre located in Lahore, Pakistan. It is a project of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial
Trust, which is a charitable organization established under the Societies Registration Act XXI of
1860 of Pakistan. The institution is the brainchild of Pakistani cricket superstar, Imran Khan. The
inspiration came after the death of his mother, Mrs. Shaukat Khanum, from cancer
Fund Raising:
Imran Khan made a nation-wide appeal for the collection of funds from a match between
Pakistan and India on November 10, 1989 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore which raised Rs.
2,902,600. This was followed by a series of more than 50 successful fund raisers held throughout
the world. Pakistan's win under Imran's captaincy in the 1992 cricket world cup in Melbourne
helped fundraising efforts. He was able to collect one and a half million pounds in just six weeks
after the World Cup when the same amount had taken 2 years to collect earlier. He donated his
entire prize money of 85,000 pounds for the project. In 1994 when the project required more
financing for the ongoing construction, Imran Khan launched a mass contact campaign in which
he toured 27 cities in the country and collected Rs. 120 million. During the entire campaign for
the construction of the hospital, over a million individual donors from ordinary citizens to the
rich and famous pitched in. Everything from cash to jewelry and valuables was donated.

services like medical care, emergency services, air ambulances, burial services, mental habitats,

Baby Cradles:
At most of the emergency Edhi Centres, "Jhoolas" (baby cradles) are installed where
unwanted infants can be left. These abandoned babies are then taken into custody and given
shelter in Edhi Homes. Although initially Edhi was subject to a lot of pressure from several
quarters on initiating Jhoola service, gradually the idea caught on.
Destitute Homes
Edhi Home also called as" Apna Ghar " ( our home), is a home for the mentally ill
destitute, for orphans and runaways. There are 13 such homes in the country out of which seven
are in Karachi . About six thousand persons live in Edhi Homes. A destitute or homeless
becomes a member of Edhi's family once he enters its premises. All boarding, lodging, clothing,
and logistic arrangements are entirely free.If a person dies within these homes, the burial
arrangements are made by the Foundation according to the religious rites of the deceased
(Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, or any other religion).
Ware House:
Voluntary contributions in kind, which include clothing, edibles, medicines, dry rations
are received throughout Edhi Centre's network. Through voluntary contributions from Pakistan
and abroad, Warehouses were established in big cities like Karachi , Islamabad , and Multan .
Five of these Warehouses are kept ready round the clock with provision of tents, dry rations,
bedding, blankets, baby milk powder, utensils, etc., to move into action immediately in times of
emergencies.

Because of social problems a large number of children leave their homes or get separated
from their families during emergencies. Similarly, mentally handicapped people who can't get
back to their homes, wander around the streets. Edhi Foundation either uses its own wireless
network, state radio and T.V. channels or arranges local announcements, advertisements in the
press, and thereby manages to return thousands of such people to their homes.
Similarly, unidentified dead bodies are kept in cold mortuaries and all efforts are made to
identify the next of kin. This service is also available to Pakistanis living abroad and is being co-
ordinated through Pakistan Embassies or offices of the Foundation abroad.
Prisoner Aid:
Following services besides legal aid are provided by Edhi Foundation to prisoners in
different jails and remand homes

“To provide better learning opportunities
for working children while
highlighting the self respect of labor”
Introduction:
Zindagi Trust is a non-profit 501(c)3 philanthropic organization that aims to provide
quality education to the underprivileged children of Pakistan. It has established I am Paid to
Learn schools with over 2800 children currently being educated across Pakistan. Additionally,
Zindagi Trust is committed to promoting quality Government school reform and improving the
curriculum and textbooks of the education system of Pakistan. Zindagi Trust along with the
Book Group was successful in the remarkable transformation of Fatimah Girls Government
School in Karachi where 2200 students are enrolled.
Zindagi Trust paid stipend to students for the time taken out of their work routines and
coming to ZT school to acquire some basic education, life skills and ethics which are generally
lacking in their family lives. This also provides them a motivation to continue their formal
education once some literacy has been imparted upon them by the ZT Schools. Presently, ZT
supports over 2800 students studying in schools operating in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
In a country like Pakistan education is a privilege, not a basic right. Help the underprivileged
children of Zindagi Trust by supporting the campaigns below:

In 2007, Zindagi Trust took over the management of a public school called SMB Fatima Jinnah
Government Girls School. The objective was to turn it into a centre of excellence with the hope
that government would replicate the model all over Pakistan. For the first time in Pakistan, we
replaced decades- old government text books with imaginative and thought-provoking text
books.
We are very proud to report that a SMB student won a bronze medal in the 2008 Inter-school
Education Olympiad art competition and the rowing team won at the Inter schools Regatta 2008,
and this was just 6 months after these activities were introduced at the school.
