DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR-
1. MRI ROOM

 Scan Room:  21’-6” X 13’-4” with 8’-9” ceiling height (after shielding is installed)

• Equipment Room:  11’-0” X 11’-6” with 8’-0” ceiling height (after shielding)

• Control Room:  12’ X 8’ (this is typically ample room for workstation, desk/chair, and a bit of
storage)

2. CT SCAN
Room dimensions are typically larger in size from 18'0" x 20'0" and up to 24'0" x 32'0".
These rooms require shielded walls, a large x-ray glass control window at least 48" wide x
36" high for a clear view of patient and procedures

WASTE DISPOSAL
BINS:
1. Red: Recyclable contaminated waste
IV tubes, catheters, tubing, or syringes (without the needle), urine bags, gloves, etc.
2. Yellow: Various biological waste
Human waste, tissues, organs, or bodily fluids, chemicals, soiled bed sheets, animal
carcasses, or laboratory waste.
3. Blue: broken/discarded contaminated glass
Broken glass materials, except those contaminated with cyotoxic wastes, metallic
body implants
4. White containers: Contaminated sharp objects
used needles, scalpels, or blades. It must be sent to a sanitary landfill.
STP – SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
ETP – EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT, for biomedical waste/fluids, which is then taken by
Pollution Control Centre
Biomedical wastes can also be liquidified by Autoclaves, then disposed off
Biomedical waste disposal + incineration only done by certified vendor (Fresh Air in
Kamrup)
