The shining parrot

Nature is the most incredible and unpredictable thing we boast by proclaiming we

comprehend it. But do we? Are we so naive to think that we can tame it? That we can
classify, hold captive its specimens, and call them “pets"? Nature is freedom and in this
story, you will see how truly astounding it is.

The Tirichio Brothers was a very popular circus in Chacabuco, so popular that people from
all around Argentina came to see its shows. Their most earth shattering attraction was a
bioluminescent parrot that sung sorrowful melodies. This parrot was the reason I wanted to
visit this circus. I remember begging my parents for the opportunity, as I was very fond of
animals and the idea of a bioluminescent parrot was very enticing to me.

Before entering the circus, while my parents were buying the tickets, I decided to explore a
nearby forest.I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a flock of bioluminescent parrots. They
seemed fairies resting underneath the tree's foliage. Their glow was dim for it was daytime.
They were very cautious at first, and I couldn't get near them. I fed them some biscuits I had
in my pockets and they slowly approached me. Just when they had started to trust me, I
heard my mother calling my name which scared them away, so I rushed and entered the
circus with my parents.

I was very young but even I could feel the sadness in the parrot's song. I sat there about to
cry, the only thing that I could think of was how to get this parrot to its family. When we were
already in our hotel, just a few blocks from the circus, and I sneaked out and cautiously
entered the tent where it was held. Without hesitation, I freed it and gazed as it disappeared
into the woods. It was almost magical as if an overgrown firefly had decided to glide through
the sky.

The years went by, and I thought that I would never see it again. But it seemed destiny had
other plans. My feathered friend returned to pay me a visit. I can't even comprehend how it
knew where I lived. All my attention was in the three little glowing parrots that were alongside
it. Surprisingly, they had learned the same sad song of its progenitor but now it was different,
almost hopeful. They kept coming and chose being my “pets” but ultimately they were free
as nature is intended to be.
