World Vision Development Foundation and the Department of Education once said that no
Filipino should be left behind in terms of reading and comprehension.
Brigada Pagbasa is a movement that also seeks to enhance the skills of Filipino children who can
read and improve their comprehension. It is an offshoot of Brigada Eskwela — an annual schools
maintenance activity initiated by DepEd and done nationwide with the help of various sectors and
individuals who volunteer to do the work, including repairs and cleanup.
In response of Tropical Village National High School to this program Mrs. Annaliza R. Dimailig,
Brigada Eskwela Coordinator in coordination with the reading teachers of English, Ms. Jane C. Baysa
and Filipino, Mrs. Emily B. Castro created a program called Online Reading Program in English and
Filipino. This program is designed to encourage the students to practice reading at home which may
develop their vocabulary, comprehension and communication skills. And to consider reading as one
of their hobbies at home specially during vacation.
This program made possible to monitor through online, wherein, language teachers sent various
activities to students via messenger and the students will send also their finished outputs in forms of
pictures or in videos. They also considered competitions/contests like Poem Writing and Reciting,
Letter writing, News Writing and Reporting and Poster Making that adds more excitement for the
students to work and perform at their best.
