METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the methods and procedures that were used to
attain valid and relevant results for the study. It contains research design,
methodology framework, observations and data analysis.
The main purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of banana
peel, orange peel, charcoal and kerosene as an alternative eco- friendly
shoe polish. In this study, the researchers used experimental and
assessment or evaluation study under descriptive design in assessing and
evaluating the effectiveness of product And to see the output of the
product from the gathered data.
This method is based on experience and evidence that will help the
researchers to answer the questions and to make concise and clear
conclusions.
We used experimental design in this chapter to see the effectiveness of
the combination of banana peel (that gives more effectiveness in shining
and smoothening surfaces like shoes madeup of leather), orange peel
(that give our product more freshy odor), and kerosene (for removing
durts in the shoe)as an alternative ingredient for shoe shiner and to see
the output of the trial product.
ORANGE PEEL

Shoe polish contains chemicals which can be absorbed through the skin
or inhaled because it has a component called nitrobenzene that can
be found in kerosene in which contains aromatic nitrogen compound
with an almond like odor that emits toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides
upon combustion. Moreover, kerosene called paraffin oil which is
typically pale yellow or colourless and has a not- unpleasant
characteristic odour. (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica, 2020).
That's why ingestion of kerosene is harmful because it can even be fatal
if fumes are inhaled. (Zsinj, 2016). So, for best remedy the researchers
used Orange peels as an alternative ingredient that are naturally absorb
bad odors and are used to maintain a clean and odor free house
without using any chemical. Citrus fruits are effective in reducing odor
because they have antimicrobial properties that help control the
growth of bacteria that causes a bad smell.

(Sandanski, Благоевград, Bulgaria, 2020). Additionally, orange peels

can eliminates the bad odors caused by kerosene and can be an
alternative organic ingredient in making shoe polish w/ a good scented
smell.

Shoe polish products are low-value items that are infrequently

purchased. Consumer demand is inelastic and largely insensitive to
price change, while sales volumes are generally low. In the shoe polish
market as a whole, some 26% of turnover is accounted for by pastes,
24% by creams, 23% by aerosols, and 13% by liquids. In recent years,
the demand for shoe polish products has either been static or declined;
one reason is the gradual replacement of formal footwear with
sneakers for everyday use. Kiwi remains the predominant shoe polish
brand in most of the world, being sold in over 180 countries and
holding a 53% market share worldwide. In present day, it is
manufactured in Australia, Canada, France, India, Pakistan, South
Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Other leading
brands include Kelly’s, Shinola, Lincoln Shoe Polish, Meltonian, Angelus,
and Cherry Blossom.

Beacause of the popularity of the shoe polish the researchers find an

alternative ingredients to help people especially to those who are
regularly using this like the students and person who work everyday.
This shoe polish is made of banana peel, kerosene, charcoal and orange
peel. There our other way of polishing shoes by just looking around the
house for ingredients or buy in market. By being creative, people can
invent and discover a new things like this. This study aims to create an
eco-friendly product and thought of a way to recycle banana peelings
and capability of using these organic wastes as component for
producing shoe polish.
