GRADUATE of AB HISTORY
GRADUATE of MA HISTORY
LET PASSER
FORMER COLLEGE INSTRUCTOR OF NORSU

1. What difficulties are you experiencing in teaching?

“As what I experience, maybe one of my difficulties in teaching was transitioning from being a college
instructor to a K-12 student teacher because teaching college students is so different from junior high
students. Another difficulty of mine was making the lesson plans because in college you don’t need
lesson plans while in K-12 you really need one. In college you have the freedom to choose what topic
you want to discuss or you want to remove or add a topic that you think you can benefit your students
while in K-12 you need to follow what they are giving you.”

2. Do you agree that a four-year Teacher Education course is better preparation for the teaching
profession?

“For me, it depends or maybe because some courses doesn’t have education background but they can
teach in college as long as you finished a four-year course. But if you want to be a teacher in the K-12, a
four-year Education course is a better preparation. Simply because during your 1 st year, you are already
groomed or being molded on how to handle your pupils or students, you are already exposed to the
field because you are given the chance to observe and while in the four walls of the classroom your are
already taught what methods and strategies to use. While if you are a CPE, it would be much harder
because you only have one year to observe the lessons, strategies, etc. The first sem of your student
teaching, you are asked to observe in a specific school assigned to you and in the second sem you will be
deployed as a student teacher. Being a CPE student, you don’t have much time to process or transition
all the learnings, not like the regular Education student. It would be a bonus if the CPE student have
already experiences in teaching because it will be a struggle for those who doesn’t have.”
