ENLISTMENT OF SUPPLY TEACHERS (SECONDARY)

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN RESOURCES, TERTIARY EDUCATION


AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates outside the service
who wish to be considered for enlistment as Supply Teacher for the teaching of the
subjects listed below in State Secondary Schools/Colleges including prevocational
classes. Supply Teachers will be enlisted on a purely temporary basis, as and when
required, during the academic year 2019 starting in January and ending in November
2019

2. AGE LIMIT

Candidates should not have reached their 65th birthday by the closing date for
the submission of applications. However, priority of consideration will be given to
young graduates with the required qualifications. In scarcity areas, the services of
candidates up to 65 years will be enlisted.

3. QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should possess:-

A.1 (i) (a) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five
subjects including English Language obtained at not more than
two sittings
or
(b) passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including
English Language obtained at not more than two sittings at the
General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided
that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i)
in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade
C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English
Language with at least Grade C in any one subject;

(ii) a Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in at least two


subjects obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of
Education “Advanced Level”; and

(iii) a degree or joint degree from a recognized institution in the


subject to be taught.

Note
(a) Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to
qualification at (ii) above; and

(b) Qualification at (ii) above should have been obtained prior to


qualification at (iii) above.

OR

A.2 (i) (a) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects
including English Language obtained at not more than two
sittings

(b or
) passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including
English Language obtained at not more than two sittings at the
General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided that
at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five
subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any
two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language
with at least Grade C in any one subject;

(ii) a degree or joint degree from a recognised institution in the


subject to be taught; and

(iii) a postgraduate Certificate in Education from a recognised


institution or a Master’s Degree from a recognised institution.

Note
Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification
at (ii) above.

OR

B.1 (i) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects
including English Language obtained at not more than two sittings
or
passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English
Language obtained at not more than two sittings at the General
Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided that at one of
the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects
including English Language with at least Grade C in any two
subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language with at
least Grade C in any one subject; and

(ii) a degree or joint degree from a recognised institution in the subject


to be taught.

Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification
at (ii) above.

OR

B.2 (i) (a) a Cambridge School Certificate with credit in at least five subjects
including English Language obtained at not more than two
sittings
(b or
) passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including

English Language obtained at not more than two sittings at the
General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided that
at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five
subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any
two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language
with at least Grade C in any one subject;

(ii) a Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in at least


two subjects obtained on one certificate at the General
Certificate of Education “Advanced Level”; and

(iii) the Teacher’s Diploma of the Mauritius Institute of Education


in the subject to be taught. For the teaching of Music, a
Diploma in Music from a recognized institution obtained after
a course of at least two years’ full-time study or the Licentiate
of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or the
Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music.

Note
Qualification at (i) above should have been obtained prior to qualification
at (ii) above.
OR

Equivalent qualifications to A and B above acceptable to the Ministry.

NOTE 1

Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School


Certificate will also be considered provided they possess passes in at least two
subjects at “Principal Level” and one subject at “Subsidiary Level” as well as the
General Paper obtained on one certificate at the Cambridge Higher School
Certificate Examinations.

NOTE 2

(i) For subjects listed at Nos 22 to 39 above, candidates though they do not
possess the basic SC/HSC qualifications required under A.1, A.2, B.1 and B.2
but

(a) possessing at least the Cambridge School Certificate together with a


Degree or Diploma from a recognized institution in the subject to be
taught or
(b) possessing at least the Cambridge School Certificate together with the
Cambridge Higher School Certificate or passes in at least two subjects,

including the subject to be taught obtained on one certificate at the GCE
“A” Level or a qualification of a comparable standard

may also apply.

(ii) For Music (Western), candidates not qualified under NOTE 2(i) above, but
possessing at least the Cambridge School Certificate may also apply provided
they possess at least Grade VII of the Royal Schools of Music or a qualification
of comparable standard.

(iii) For Music (Vocal), Music (Instrumental) and Classical Dance, candidates
not qualified under NOTE 2(i) above, but possessing at least the Cambridge
School Certificate may also apply provided they possess a Certificate in
Music (Oriental)/Classical Dance from a recognized institution or a
qualification of comparable standard.

Note
Applications under NOTE 2 will be considered in the absence of candidates
possessing qualifications at A.1; A.2; B.1 and B.2 above.

NOTE 3
The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualifications (if applicable)
from the competent authorities rests solely upon the candidates.

4. ALLOWANCE

Candidates will be paid on a monthly rate, on a pro-rata basis, on days on which


they actually work, viz:-

(i) Rs 25,525 to those who possess qualifications laid down at A above;


(ii) Rs 19,575 to those who possess qualifications laid down at B;
(iii) Rs 16,075 to those who qualify under NOTE 2

Bus fares will be refunded on the basis of the number of days of attendance at the
approved rates.

5. MODE OF APPLICATION

Applications should be made on the prescribed form [see 6(iii) below]
obtainable at the:-

 Enquiry Unit of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary


Education and Scientific Research, Ground Floor, MITD House, Phoenix

 Educational Zone 1, Mutual Aid Building, Phase II, Level 3, Guy


Rozemont Square, Port Louis.

 Educational Zone 2, NCCRD, Sir F Herchenroder Street, Beau Bassin.

 Educational Zone 3, Rose Belle (opposite Grand Port Savanne District


Council).

 Educational Zone 4, Level 2, Ebène Heights, Ebène.

The Application Form can also be downloaded from the website of the Ministry
at the following address:

http://ministry-education.govmu.org

The Application Form should be submitted along with copies of the


Birth/Marriage, Academic and Professional Certificates, transcripts of the modules
covered in the Diploma/Degree and evidence of teaching experience, if any.

6. IMPORTANT

(i) Candidates should clearly indicate on their Application Forms the


subject for which they are applying. The subject Number should be
included (eg No 1 for Accounts). Failure to do so may entail their
elimination from the competition.

(ii) Candidates willing to be considered for more than one subject should
fill in separate Application Forms.

(iii) Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the Application Form


may entail elimination of the applicant. Only the prescribed
Application Form should be used.

(iv) Candidates will be contacted, as far as possible, by email and phone.


Candidates are therefore advised to submit valid email address as well
as a phone number on which they can be easily contacted.

(v) The Ministry reserves the right to convene only the best qualified
candidates for interview.

7. CLOSING DATE OF APPLICATION

(a) Qualified candidates are requested to submit their applications so as to
reach the Senior Chief Executive [Attn. Human Resource Section
(Secondary), Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary
Education and Scientific Research, 2nd Floor, MITD House, Phoenix not
later than 3.30 p.m on Thursday 9 August 2018. Applications obtained
after the closing date will not be accepted. The onus for the prompt
submission of applications so that they reach the Senior Chief Executive,
Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and
Scientific Research in time lies solely on applicants.

Envelopes should be marked "SUPPLY TEACHERS, State Secondary


Schools/Colleges” on the top left corner.
