Assessment technique: Database entry
Task: Individual assessment
Objective: To enable students
• to enhance their knowledge through extended learning
• to appreciate interrelation between classroom learning and surroundings
• to broaden their observation skills
• to make them more aware of the nutritional value and components of the food they eat
• to collect and organize data

What to do:
1. Students should be asked to collect packets/labels of any ten foodstuffs they eat, such
as milk, biscuits, packets of juice, cereals, etc.
2. The labels should then pasted in a scrapbook and analysed for their nutritive value.
3. The food components present in each foodstuff is noted down and then the amount
of each component.

Assessment should be based on the following:


2 marks for proper collection of labels
5 marks for proper analysis of the labels
1 mark for proper presentation of observation and analysis
2 marks for timely submission and neatness
Total marks: 10

Remedial Measures
1. If students are not able to collect labels properly, ask them to get printouts of some
labels from the internet.
If students are not able to understand how to analyse foodstuffs, try and revise the
sources of each food component such as carbohydrates, proteins, etc.
