I. Introduction
Plant tissue is a collection of similar cells performing an organized function for the plant.
The three major types of plant tissues are dermal, ground, and vascular tissues. Dermal
tissues covers the outside of a plant in a single layer of ells called the epidermis. Ground
tissue makes up much of the interior of a plant and carries out basic metabolic functions.
Vascular tissues transport water and dissolved substances inside the plant [ CITATION
CK120 \l 1033 ]. The three simple permanent tissues are Parenchyma, Collenchyma, and
Sclerenchyma. Xylem and Phloem tissues make up the vascular tissue which are
responsible for storing and transporting water and food to the plant [ CITATION Tea20 \l
1033 ].

II. Objectives
At the end of the experiment, the student must be able to:
 Observe epidermal cells and stomata;
 Observe the structure and fresh parenchyma cells in potato, sclerenchyma cells in pear,
and collenchyma cells in celery stalk;
 Investigate or see sclerenchyma fibers in tissue paper;
 Observe the patterned secondary walls in the xylem of fresh plant tissue;

III. Materials
 Sample leaf with epidermis that strips off easily
 Microscopes
 Glass slides and cover slips
 Dissecting needles
 Scissors
 Potato
 Petri dish or watch glasses
 Iodine solution
