Belief Statements

I believe that my children have taught me as much if not more than I have taught them.

I believe I became a better educator, listener, partner and friend when I became a parent.

I believe that each of us needs to do a better job at honouring each other’s strengths not
nitpicking each other’s differences.

I believe each day is a new day, and we need to learn from the mistakes of yesterday, not dwell
on them.

I believe that moving forward can sometimes be difficult, especially when it’s necessary.

I believe that I am both my greatest critic and my greatest champion.

I believe that it is okay to say “no” in order to say “yes” to something that will bring greater joy.

I believe that teaching is “a calling” and that students know when you don’t enjoy being there.

I believe every student is a reader they just need help finding their “gateway” book.

I believe that when creativity strikes, it’s okay to change direction.

I believe at times life is not easy or fair; therefore I believe in hard work, grit and perseverance.

I believe students need to be valued for their strengths, especially if they are not academic ones.

I believe that classrooms are evolving, organic spaces that should take on new personalities
each year, depending on the students co-learning with you.

I believe that no situation is “black or white”, it’s in the “grey areas” where solutions and
answers are often found.

I believe that there are times it’s essential to follow, and others when one should lead.

I believe it is important to leave your comfort zone and take risks, “you’ll never know until you
try.”

I believe that it is important to be a life long learner.
