Belief Statements
I believe that my children have taught me as much if not more than I have taught them.
I believe I became a better educator, listener, partner and friend when I became a parent.
I believe that each of us needs to do a better job at honouring each other’s strengths not
nitpicking each other’s differences.
I believe each day is a new day, and we need to learn from the mistakes of yesterday, not dwell
on them.
I believe that moving forward can sometimes be difficult, especially when it’s necessary.
I believe that it is okay to say “no” in order to say “yes” to something that will bring greater joy.
I believe that teaching is “a calling” and that students know when you don’t enjoy being there.
I believe every student is a reader they just need help finding their “gateway” book.
I believe at times life is not easy or fair; therefore I believe in hard work, grit and perseverance.
I believe students need to be valued for their strengths, especially if they are not academic ones.
I believe that classrooms are evolving, organic spaces that should take on new personalities
each year, depending on the students co-learning with you.
I believe that no situation is “black or white”, it’s in the “grey areas” where solutions and
answers are often found.
I believe that there are times it’s essential to follow, and others when one should lead.
I believe it is important to leave your comfort zone and take risks, “you’ll never know until you
try.”
