AIM 4−3−11. Pilot Responsibilities When
Conducting Land and Hold Short Operations
(LAHSO)
 6. A pilot who accepts a LAHSO clearance should land and exit the
runway at the first convenient taxiway (unless directed otherwise) before
reaching the hold short point. Otherwise, the pilot must stop and hold at
the hold short point. If a rejected landing becomes necessary after
accepting a LAHSO clearance, the pilot should maintain safe separation
from other aircraft or vehicles, and should promptly notify the controller.

4-600 LAND AND HOLD-SHORT OPERATIONS (LAHSO).
 Rejected Landing Procedure (RLP). A published, predetermined heading to be used in
the event of a rejected landing. Unless alternate instructions are given by ATC, pilots are
expected to execute the procedure as published and remain clear of clouds.
 Required RLP.
• RLPs may be established for some locations. Pilots are expected to execute the
published procedure, unless alternate instructions are given by ATC. RLPs may be
published in the U.S. Chart Supplements. (RLPs will be listed by Notices to Airmen
(NOTAM) until published appropriately by Air Traffic Services (ATS).)
• The criteria for the RLPs must be published in advance of the commencement of the
flight, and must be readily available to the flightcrew members as part of their
navigation documentation.

Pilot Knowledge

 Part 91K, 135, and 121 require OpSpec/MSpec approval for LAHSO
• Includes training
• RLPs
• Information on Required Landing Distance
 Part 91 pilots have only AIM 4-3-11

LAHSO Data in the TPP

 Landing Runway
 Hold Short Point
 Available Landing Distance

NBAA Concerns

 Guidance provided to certificated operators in the 8900.1 exceeds that

provided in the AIM for LAHSO
• Concern for part 91 operators of turbine-engine powered, transport category airplanes
 No discussion on LAHSO Rejected Landing Procedures in the AIM
 TPP entry for LASHO does not provide RLPs
• Forces pilots to the Chart Supplement – Special Notices
• Easily overlooked during in-flight pre-landing briefings
 Concerned over plans to expand LAHSO with RLPs at a major Metroplex

11
NBAA Recommendations

 Provide LAHSO Rejected Landing Procedures in the TPP LAHSO entry

 Commercial charts providers also include LAHSO RLPs in their documents
• Recognize outside of ACM-CG Scope – mentioned here for their information
 Revise/Update AIM 4-3-11 on LAHSO to include discussion on RLPs
 Review AIM 4-3-11 for consistency with guidance/best practices provided in FAAO
8900.1 Vol 4, Ch3, Sec 5 on LAHSO
 Review related LAHSO guidance for accuracy, currency & consistency
