Animal cells are usually irregular (e.g. sperm cell) and round (e.g.
, blood cells) in shape, while plant cells
are rectangular (e.g allium cepa). However, both come in many various shapes and sizes depending on the cell’s particular function like in some plant cells might be in irregular polygons/shapes,(e.g. zea mays leaf) but the presence of cell wall is what gives them their characteristic block-like shape and to have distinct rigid edges.
