ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this assignment is to equip learners with the knowledge and understanding
of professionals in the educational system. According to Ingersoll and Merill (2011a,
pp.157), sociologists characterise professionals in the field of education by several factors.
Four of the factors are as follows:
a) Professional development support, opportunities, and participation
b) Induction and mentoring programs for entrants
c) Specialisation
d) Authority over decision making

INSTRUCTIONS: Complete ALL tasks.

Task 1
You are required to identify a school and then interview TWO teachers regarding
their professionalism based on the four factors given. Using the data and
information collected from these teachers, write a descriptive essay on your
findings. Support your essay discussion with appropriate examples, and also align
your discussion to the four factors given.
(30 marks)

Task 2
Based on your interview with the two teachers in Task 1, discuss to what extent the
teachers in your country can be considered as professionals based on the four
factors given. Support your discussion with empirical findings from at least 3
research journals.
(30 marks)
