THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY (SOLEMNITY)

❖ INTRODUCTION
Today, we celebrate the feast when God honors his most beloved creature, Mary.
She was conceived without sin so that she in turn would conceive Jesus, the sinless Son of
God. The one who had been chosen in a special way to be the Mother of the Church. God
assumes her into heaven, body and soul, so that the corruption of death will not touch her
sinless body.
Let us therefore pray to the Lord during this Holy Eucharistic celebration, the wisdom
to always note that Assumption is not just about raising Mary’s sinless body into heaven,
but it also becomes our own challenge towards a life of holiness. So, as we join in her
happiness, let us look forward to the day when we too can share it with her.

❖ 1st READING: A reading from the book of Revelation 11:19:12:1-6.10

This reading tells us about a woman who is clothed with the sun, and with the moon
under her feet. Let’s listen….
❖ 2nd READING: A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians 15:20-27
This reading makes us understand that as death came from man, just as resurrection
came from man as well for Jesus was the first fruits been raised from death.

❖ UNIVERSAL PRAYERS
1. For the church, we pray that she may always seek the image of our Mother Mary for
she will always be ready to intercede for us before her son our Lord Jesus Christ.
OH, Mary our Blessed Mother listen to the supplications of your children.
2. For the leaders of our society, Lord, we pray that they may always seek the Grace of
your son Jesus Christ in order to better guide and lead her nation just as Jesus
Gracefully leads his children.

3. For all those who do not acknowledge our Mother Mary, Lord, we pray that by your
Grace they may receive the touch of the Holy Spirit so that for ever they will always
remember call on the Blessed virgin Mary for she is the mother of your church.
OH, Mary our Blessed Mother listen to the supplications of your children.
4. For all your children here assembled lord, we pray for your endless grace and
blessings to come down upon us so that as we receive your holy words daily, we
may continue to be good examples for others to follow the growth of your Holy
Church.
