The Metadata Framework is like a blank canvas. You take the requirements you have and you
build it. There are a generic set of components available for all MDF objects. These
components can be used again and again to fill the requirements you have for that object.
However, you can only work with the given size of the canvas. Although MDF objects are
highly configurable, there are some restrictions.

The Metadata Framework consists of multiple layers. MDF provides a generic, configurable,
and extensible mechanism to achieve all of the layers that practically any application would
need, as shown in the figure, Components of MDF. Through this mechanism, MDF promotes
consistency in behavior, look, and feel. MDF avoids code redundancy and provides a nice
head start while building applications.
