MR3026 – AUTOMATION OF MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

ACTIVITY

ROBOTS

I. Objectives:
The objectives of this activity are: to plan, elaborate, test and run a robot program in order to
achieve the given tasks.

II. Equipment:
In order to perform this activity, you will have access to the following equipment:
 Robot FANUC M6iB
 Controller FANUC R-J3iB  PowerMate
 Teach pendant  Tables with pins
 Gripper  PC with CIM software
 Two pieces (raw material and machined piece)
III. Instructions:
You will elaborate a robot program to perform the following tasks respecting the sequence
given below:
1. The raw material and the machined pieces are located on the first raw of the table (Fig.1).
2. Grab the raw material piece and place it on the second raw; repeat the operation for the
machined piece (Fig.2).
3. Wait 5 seconds (Fig.3).
4. Grab the raw material piece and place it on the first raw; repeat the operation for the
machined piece (Fig.4).

 Be careful when the robot is in motion.
 Choose an appropriate name for your program.
 The table and robot will be assigned by the professor of the course.
 You can choose your own rail position using the PowerMate.
 Keep in mind to elaborate a program that satisfied all the basic requirements of safety,
velocity and precision.
 Run the program from the laboratory’s PC.
 The demonstration of this activity will be run at 35% of the automatic velocity.
 The teams will be designated by the professor of the course.

IV. Report:
For this activity each team will submit a report that must contain the following information:
 Front page (course name, activity name, date, name of the team members).
 Introduction (What is this equipment used for in the industry?).
 Presentation of the activity (What do you have to do for this activity?).
 Development of the activity (program, drawing, calculations, additional explanations,
etc...).
 Conclusions (Why is this activity useful for your professional life?).
 Individual commentaries (What did you learn? What was the most challenging part of
the activity? How did you solve the problems that you encountered?).

V. Evaluation:
You will be graded according to the following: demonstration (60%), report (20%) and
individual quiz (20%).

GOOD LUCK AND BE SAFE…!!!
