How to Register with the

FSSAI
A guide for petty food business operators

This guide is ONLY for petty food business operators who are looking to register
with the FSSAI.

You are a petty food business operator if:

● Your annual turnover is less than twelve lakh rupees


● You manufacture and distribute food / food products yourself
● You hold a temporary food stall / are a street food vendor
● Your business has the following production limits:
○ food other than milk and milk products and meat and meat products does not exceed 100
kg/ltr per day
○ milk is up to 500 litres of milk per day (including procurement or handling and collection)
○ Slaughtering capacity is 2 large animals or 10 small animals or 50 poultry birds per day or less

FSSAI identifies different kinds of food businesses based on the type of food
product / manufacturing process / business model.

After you have filled basic details in your registration form, you will need to list the
type of products that your business will handle / produce.

FSSAI defines different food types based on ingredients and manufacturing


process.
