Message of ED (I/c) SERPL on Fire Service Day 2020

Fire Service Day is observed on 14th April every year to pay homage to the brave Fire-Fighters who laid
down their lives fighting a devastating fire at Bombay Dock on 14th April 1944. As a mark of respect to
their devotion to the duty, we renew our commitment in promoting fire safe work environment & fire
prevention awareness among all our employees. We observe the week 14th to 20th April as Fire Service
Week with a theme. The theme for this year’s Fire Service Day is:

“शमनम् अग्नि, शरणम् अग्नि “

“SAMANAM AGNI – SARANAM AGNI”.

The meaning of the theme is extinguishing fire by keeping it always under our control. This is possible by
ensuring compliance of all SOPs, rules & regulations, best practices, specifications and guidelines etc. in
all areas of our work. SERPL has all types of operations under its basket with offshore facilities including
SBMs, storage of product and crude oil in large tanks, crude and product pipeline, LPG pipeline and
extensive construction activities. Managing all these safely demands a high level of discipline w.r.t best
operation and maintenance practices.

2020 is being observed as a year of digitalisation. There are vast areas of digitalisation possible in our
operation, maintenance and construction activities. We are continuously innovating with various
advanced tools like Pipeline Intrusion Detection and Warning System (PIDWS), extensive automation in
O&M, use of analytics in pipeline health monitoring system and app based monitoring mechanism as
well as adopting best practices like display of visual SOPs, Zero Waste Management System and
Pipelines Safety Management System. However, I still find scope of improvement in all these areas.
PHBPL Paradip needs to implement all recommendations of best practices to make it an ideal tank farm
location of IOCL. PSMS has been introduced in SERPL and it needs to be digitalised for gaining 100%
benefits from it.

At present, the country is passing through a challenging time in its fight against Covid-19. As it’s a time
of lockdown, SERPL continues to serve the country by smooth operation of all its operating locations. In
order to continue to do that, we need to ensure that none of us fall victim to this pandemic. I urge all of
you and your family members to ensure that all guidelines being shared by the corporation for Covid-19
prevention are strictly followed. We must continue to contribute to Covid-19 prevention activities
ensuring our own safety and operate our facilities under all circumstance. Lets rededicate ourselves to
ensure zero Covid-19 cases as well as zero fire incidents in SERPL.

I am happy to note that all locations of SERPL are observing Fire Service Week from 14th to 20th April
2020 by organising various activities. Let’s use electronic media for most of the activities to ensure social
