PDE4302 - Operational BIM Management – Project 02 – Group 04

Queries in relation to project brief:

 (LC) The example RFP's have a points scoring system for selecting. Is this normal?
Are we to follow suit, or are there other methods

 (LC) Time frame of services to be requested/offered. This is relating to costing the

services. I understand we are to discuss future BIM applications, and how the bidder must
demonstrate they will setup the Company for 'future BIM', but my question is how long will
the services of the bidder be for? How much time can be charged for implementing BIM into
a company?

 (VR) Can you elaborate on the term 'internet of things' and how you see this relating
to organisational BIM implementation?

 (VR) 'Prediction Strategies for Future Costs', is this for the 'future strategies'
mentioned or referring to something else?

 (VR) With the individual report based on how we would reply to the RFP, is it the
case that this needs to be produced in order to write the report?

 (LC) How mature (BIM-wise) is our current organisation?

 (LC) Can you please elaborate on Vertical & Horizontal integration (is this related to
organisational structure?), and the reference to 'Systems Coordination' please?

 (SM) How much time should be invested in the group section of the project bearing in
mind we need to produce our individual reports too?

 (SM) I know that the difference between RFP and a tender has been defined but
please could this be tabled for further discussion and clarification.

1. How to allocate the report between team members?
Is it as per roles i.e top management, operations management,technical/design management?
If so, how to allocate them, as there are more people than the roles?
2. There is no clear sub section like in report 1(cost, time, quality etc.) for individual team
members. How do we divide them? How we decide who is responsible for what? How we
will be marked?
Individual: replying to that RFP (strategy to define defects, objectives, requirements…)

Does it mean that you need to look at every BIM categories, for example in change
management andpropose how you:

Identify defects (in change management policy)

Then propose what should be the objective ( of thepolicy)

What need to be done to rectify that policy

And how you implement that policy?

1. How do we intend to divide the RFP in relation to the Brief?

“In your different roles (top management, operations management, technical/design

management) you will collaborate to write the RFP”.

 I count 3/4 possible roles and 6 in our team?)

 Or, do we divide the RFP as per the RFP categories?
 How do we ensure equal grading and fair share of work?

2. Just to confirm and avoid confusion:

22 January 2015
“As a group, you will imagine all being part of a design/contracting/operations
organisation that wants to transform its practices to utilising BIM in future.”

 I presume this means a Tier 1 Contractor with design and operations

capability? For example BAM Design, BAM Construction, Inertserve
Engineering Services, Interserve Construction, Interserve FM etc.

3. Is this an option?

“Write an RFP inviting consultancy firms”

 Within the individual stage this seems to be open to interpretation?

“i.e. ‘if’ answering it as a consultant” ?

 Could we answer this as an individual ‘BIM Manager’ or as a specialist BIM

Consultancy ‘company’ etc?

4. Perhaps clarify the following in relation to the brief (Q2, above):

 “Are you adopting Vertical Integration? (Include design, construction,

operation processes)”
 “Are you adopting Horizontal Integration? (Systems coordination)”

3. Michael Boyd: Do you want us to include you in on ANY group emails/minutes since no
log is required.

7. Alistair Clark: • The criteria for grading for the RFP portion specifies: “A Table of
Contents (with name of each person beside his contribution chapter)”. This implies we should
each select individual chapter(s) to write, and not collaborate. Is that correct? As there are 6
of us, do we then have 6 or 12 chapters?

8. Alistair Clark: • Who is the target audience for our Critical Analysis report?

9. Jack Dearlove:  1.       What is BIM? If we are going to implement it, we must define what
it is. My answer is going to be different from Noha's and the rest of the group is going to
differ between ourselves. 2.       How specific should the RFP be? Should it detail what
processes, procedures and technology that is to be implemented or should it be a high level
document focusing on the desired outcomes? possibly a change in service offering. 3.       Is it
expected that we adopt different roles to write the RFP from differing perspectives, or should
we agree the structure of the RFP document as a whole, then distribute the workload? 4.
Are there any areas we must incorporate to show our understanding, such as COBie?

10. Daryn /fitz: do we need to outline potential ROI or benefits in our report

11. Jack Dearlove: How does the group RFP work? If it is to be coordinated as previously it
will take forever like project 1

12. Daryn /fitz: How much can we exceed the word count?

13. Daryn /fitz: Can REx write and publish a whitepaper and  then reference that
