    ESTOPPEL

    The Civil Code of the Philippines defined Estoppel under Article 1431

    Through estoppel an admission or representation is rendered conclusive upon the person


    making it, and cannot be denied or disproved as against the person relying thereon.

    Merriam --- a legal bar to alleging or denying a fact because of one's own previous actions or words
    to the contrary

    The doctrine of estoppel was based on public policy, fair dealing, good faith and justice, and its
    purpose was to forbid a party to speak against his own act or omission, representation, or
    commitment to the injury of another to whom the act, omission, representation, or commitment was
    directed and who reasonably relied thereon. The doctrine sprang from equitable principles and the
    equities in the case, and was designed to aid the law in the administration of justice where without its
    aid injustice would result. Estoppel has been applied by the Court wherever and whenever special
