Stonehenge construction

Stonehenge is a megalithic monument, located in England, about fifteen kilometers north of Salisbury.

Stonehenge is also a place where extravagant and fanciful theories emerge about the origin or function
of the monument. The fact that there isn`t absolute certainty makes its construction mysterious; It also
sparks the imagination of how it could have been built.

Many people think that it was impossible to move these immense stones from the supposed quarries of
Wales, more than 100 km away, to the placid plains of Abevury. Which one theory is that there were
superior beings like extraterrestrials who moved these great stones, and who used it as reference points
for their communications.

Now it´s known that in this place they unearthed tools of wood and stone and bones of uro, an
enormous animal already extinct that served as food for the inhabitants of the area. This suggests it was
built by sedentary communities from 8820 B.C. and that it served as a meeting point for several
inhabitants of the old island.

It is also supposed to have been used as an astronomical observatory to predict the seasons. The
heaviest rocks exceed 50 tons, and 600 strong men would have been needed to move one of them.

It is not yet known what Stonehenge was built for, opinions about it range from a temple to an
astronomical observatory or a prehistoric calendar due to the alignment it presents with the sun and the
moon.
