GRADE 8 – SJST, SJP AND BMSA

DATE: SEPTEMBER 23-24, 2019

NOTES: 2ND PRELIM EXAM – SETEMBER 26-28, 2019

CHAPTER FOUR, LESSON 2 – INVESTIGATING ELECTRIC CURRENT AND CIRCUITRY

THE LEARNERS WILL BE ABLE TO:

1. Define and explain the concepts under electric current and circuitry.
2. Draw schematic diagrams of circuits.
3. Compute for current, voltage and resistance in single, series and parallel circuits using Ohm’s
Law.
4. Handle electrical devices and wiring safely.
5. Collaborate and work harmoniously with classmates to accomplish tasks assigned.

CONCEPT: ELECTRIC CURRENT AND CIRCUITRY

SUBCONCEPTS: VOLTAGE, RESISTANCE, OHM’S LAW, ELECTRIC POWER, SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS,

TYPES OF CIRCUITS (PARALLEL AND SERIES), DANGERS OF ELECTRICITY (OVERLOADING, SHORT
CIRCUIT, ELECTROCUTION), SAFETY DEVICES (FUSE, CIRCUIT BREAKER, GROUNDING, DOUBLE
INSULATION)

B. Value Focus:

1. Collaboration
2. Innovation
3. Conservation
4. Managing Complexities

III. LEARNING TASK OR PROCESS:

A. INTRODUCTION:

Do a quick recap on lessons regarding electrostatics. Let them recall or recite important
points from the past lesson. After a quick recap, let them answer brain gauge on page 117 of
their book. Proceed with the lesson proper using book and prepared visual aids.

B. INTERACTION:

Start the lesson proper regarding Electricity with the use of their book, prepared handout and
a visual aid.

PROCESS QUESTIONS:

1. What are electrical charges and how do they create electric fields and electric current?
2. How is electric energy created and how is this different from electrical power?
3. What are the different types of circuits, their potential danger and their safety devices?

EXPLAIN TO THE CLASS THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CIRCUITS:

Discuss and demonstrate the necessary calculations and how to draw schematic diagrams.

VALUING:
Electricity is useful- it lights up our homes and makes our gadgets work, but it can also be
dangerous. Electrocution and explosions due to faulty wiring are some hazards of using electricity, so
people have designed several safety devices to prevent electrical accidents.

Aside from safety devices, people have also come up with laws and regulations when it come
to electrical safety. Here in the Philippines, laws and codes are made by the government such offices
responsible for these laws would be department of labor and employment, LGU’s and department of
energy.

EXAMPLES OF SAFETY DEVICES:

FUSE

CIRCUIT BREAKER

EARTHING OR GROUND SYSTEM:

C. INTEGRATION:

Have the students summarize the lesson by answering the Check your Understanding
on their Grade 8 Diwa book on page 134- 136.

Evaluation / Assessment
- Pen and Paper Test

Assignment
- Advance reading on the next lesson

Closure
- ESSAY WRITING ON THE IMPORTANCE OF ELECTRICAL SAFETY AT
HOME AND AT SCHOOL.
