 Nursing Informatics is like a
beehive and we nurses are the
worker bees.
 Just like the HIS, hives are a man-
made, artificial structure. It is used to
house a honeybee nest, wherein HIS
and EHR is used to store patient data
RATIONALE and information. And as for the worker
bees who take care of everything, we
as nurses handle everything with
regards to HIS and EHR.
 As I said, much like the HIS, hives are used to define an
artificial, man-made structure. It is used to house a
honeybee nest, where HIS and EHR are used to store
information and patient data. The inner structure of the
nest is a densely packed group of hexagonal prismatic
cells composed of beeswax, called a honeycomb. These
individual honeycombs can be correlated to the computers
and devices’ that are utilized in both HIS and HER. The

DESCRIPTION reason why we are the worker bees is that the worker bees
do all the work in the hive, and they control most of what
goes on inside. Their jobs include housekeeping, feeding
the queen, drones, and larvae, collecting the pollen and
nectar, and making the wax. Much like us nurses, we are
responsible and expected to do a lot of work in the
hospital. Nurses take care of people of all ages and as they
say, we care for them from the womb to tomb, just like the
worker bees do. We are are also the ones who collect,
interpret, and manage the data we have gathered.
APPLICATION
And when it comes to Nursing Informatics, we are the ones
who are responsible for the handling and protection of data.
And when it comes to Nursing Informatics, we are the ones
who are responsible for the handling and protection of data. As
worker bees, we are the ones that control what goes inside our
honeycombs, our computers, and devices, and what we store
in it. With these comparisons, HIS and EHR are as fragile as
honeycombs if they are not protected and secured in their
boxes. They are interconnected to one another and it is very
important to keep them intact so that the honey won’t go to
waste. Now as we all know, digitalizing data and records are
vulnerable to the breach of privacy and the possibility of
information being corrupted. I do think that we should build a
better box for our beehive, which means that we need to have
a better security system and a firewall that can definitely
secure the data of the patients.
