MAORI is a classic top-down shoulderette shawl, which is worked in one piece. Simple stockinette
stitch to begin with followed by a lace border set of two different stich patterns. Patterning of the
lace is done on the right side rows, wrong side rows are purled.

Notions:
-Yarn
- Needle
Yarn: any laceweight or fingering yarn (as wool) or any - Scrap pieces of yarn
other shawl yarn of your choice in a contrasting color
- Hook
Needles: circular needles in your preferred size

Gauge: gauge is not crucial

Finished Size:
I used 55g Mohair yarn; 985 yards/900 meters per 100g on 2.75mm (US 1½)
needles. Blocked size 175 x 80cm (69 x 32 inches).

Please be aware that adding

repeats and/or using thicker yarn and
bigger needles will increase the amount
of yarn needed (and your shawl
will be larger)!

A Construction Note
If you have experience with top down triangular shawls, this one works much the same way. You are creating 1
large triangle that consists of 2 identical triangles, with a single spine stitch running down the center. The triangle
shape is achieved by increasing on each edge, as well as on either side of the center stitch. For much of the
pattern you will be increasing 4 stitches every right side row - 1 on the right edge, 2 in the center, and 1 on the
left edge.
Don’t forget to knit the three border stitches on either edge, slipping the first stitch of every row purlwise with the
yarn in front very loosely in every row.

Bind off

Bind off after row 56 of Border chart. Using a stretchy bind off. I like this one: knit 2 stitches, slip 2
stitches back on the left needle and knit tog through the back loops. *Knit 1, slip 2 stitches back
on the left needle and knit tog through the back loops, repeat * until all stitches are bound off.

Weave in ends. Soak the shawl in water for about 15-20 minutes. Wrap the shawl into towel and
gently press it to remove excess water. Lay the shawl flat and block it into shape.
