Title: A Concept of High Power DC/DC Converter with Double Low Power Outputs

Due Date: 04-Oct-2019

Summary
This paper proposes to improve power quality of high voltage transmission lines.in HVDC
transmission lines dc current fluctuation exist which produce disturbance for output terminal and
reduce output power. So if we use multiple outputs converter using switching elements then we reduce
dc current fluctuation. If we require dc power outputs from a dc transmission system for any other
purpose like in offshore wind power we use dc power output.

Background
When a HVDC transmission line use for long distance power transmission then due to dc
current fluctuation output power reduce and not give constant value.so first we use one dc power
output to reduce dc current fluctuation but we not increase power quality. To reduce more dc current
fluctuation and switching losses connect another dc power output in series with first dc power output.
After addition of another dc power output circuit reduce dc current fluctuation and power losses of dc
transmission line.
Introduction
A HVDC transmission system play an important role to transmit high power over a long
distance due to less cost, less power losses. To reduce dc current fluctuation we first connect one
converter.
Dc Power Supply with One HVDC Tap
For reduce dc current fluctuation first we take one HVDC tap series
connected converter with dc transmission line as Fig. 1. A series connected bridge consist on two GTOs
and two diodes use to make ac component to give input to series transformer. After this bridge rectifier
convert ac to dc power output. But only single series connect converter to reduce dc current fluctuation
and during switching of GTOs more power loss due duty cycle.

Dc Power Supply with Two HVDC Taps
For reduce dc current and switching power we add another
series connecter bridge converter with dc transmission line as Fig. 2. After one HVDC tap converter
switching loss increases due to capacitor across GTOs. So if we give one switching pattern to first HVDC
tap and invert switching pattern to second HVDC tap then we reduce dc current fluctuation and power
loss due switching frequency. If we increase switching frequency then output voltage of dc transmission
line increase. The output voltage of both converter is less then dc line voltage.

Conclusion
This paper introduces a multiple output dc voltage in transmission line system. HVDC
transmission system mostly use in offshore wind power system with multiple output voltages. If we
connect HVDC taps with dc transmission line, we reduce fluctuation of dc currents and reduce power
loss in dc transmission line.
