The contents’ resources support learners’ literacy and numeracy skills. In week one, the hook
activity resource involves thinking and responding to comprehension questions to improve
learners’ literacy skills, meeting outcome LAR5-7U. Here, the questions’ complexity rises for
different Arabic learners, requiring forms of expressions (for all learners) and forming
comparisons (for native learners). As well, the quiz resource set to check prior learning that
highlights what they know and do not know. The resources reflect on Bloom’s taxonomy of
“understand level of thinking” (Schulz & FizPatrick, 2016, p.73). In week two, literacy is
demonstrated through learners writing a recipe and ingredients for a famous chef to see and
respond – LAR5-3C. This includes adding an Arabic cultural food element, meeting outcome
LAR5-9U. This is supported by examples of ingredients list and recipes that vary in their
intricacy for different Arabic levels. The provided resources of explanations and exercises
improve students’ language literacy skills, resulting in ongoing development of
comprehension skills (Probert, 2009, p.31). This enables learners to use their vocabulary,
implement writing skills and use grammatical forms. Here, literacy skills become activated
which is essential to effective learning (Probert, 2009, p.25), enhancing general capabilities.

Moreover, the resources created for different Arabic language learners comprise numeracy
skills. In week one, the pricing of products requires writing them as numbers and words. In
week two, the ingredients and recipes require using numbers for writing the steps and
measurements of the amount required. This supports the learners’ ability to numerate in
learning (Porbert, 2009, p.25), which enhances their numeracy skills in learning Arabic and
in general. In week two, the pair conversation activity allows students to question ‘how
many’ fruit trees or vegetables. The response to the question requires using numbers to
indicate the total of owned produce, which activates numeracy skills.
