Why is a modal perfect important?

Because the modal verbs express possibility or probability. When used with the infinitive form of
the perfect ("have" + past participle), modal verbs indicate speculation about things in the past
and are:

 May have / Might have

 Can’t have

 Could have

 Should have / Ought to have
