About the Author

Brenda is a young girl from Hong Kong who is a reader, a doodler and a dreamer. Brenda started

writing her own books at the age of 11 during the worldwide COVID19 crisis in 2020 when

everyone was kept home. This book, “If I Were”, is her first publication of work, an attempt to

put together 18 simple articles with drawings.

SUN

If I were the Sun, I would shine all day long.

I would bring sunlight to the whole planet Earth,

so that everyone could see my light.

I would shine my light on the Moon,

so that people could admire her beauty.

CLOUD

If I were a cloud, I would let my tears water the plants below me.

I would turn myself into different shapes,

and let people use their imagination to choose what I am.

I would float high in the sky,

like an eagle gliding in the skies.

LIGHTNING

If I were lightning, I would race across the skies.

Quicker than thunder, I would aim to be the fastest.

I would win every race in the sky and be swifter than a cheetah.

But I will try to avoid lightning rods, so that I can remain in the skies.

LION

If I were a lion, I would prowl through the savanna.

I would growl at every intruder with a roar as loud as thunder!

I would find my very own pride of lions, and lead with confidence.

Every animal would respect and fear me,

because I would be brave and fierce.

FALCON

If I were a falcon, I would soar through the skies.

I would be the fastest bird, even quicker than the king, the eagle!

Catching prey would be a breeze, those mice will never see it coming.

I would defend my territory as fiercely as a leopard.

DOLPHIN

If I were a dolphin, I would swim through the ocean easily.

When I perform tricks in a show, the crowd would cheer and adore me.

I would snatch fish with a jump, and the crowd will go wild!

But watch me jumping through five hoops in a row,

who wouldn’t be impressed?

PLANT

Azalea  Cedarwood  Cactus

AZALEA

If I were azalea, I would open my bloom to the fullest.

I would let people admire me, and show off arrogantly.

I would like my petals to be purple, a colour some people love.

I would feel the tiny feet, as the bees and butterflies land and

gather nectar from me.

CEDARWOOD

If I were cedarwood, I would stand tall and proud.

I would offer shelter to all those who come passing by.

No matter the storms or the wind or the rain, I will still be standing tall.

Even through a big typhoon, I will never fall.

CACTUS

If I were a cactus living in the desert,

I would catch as much rainwater as I can when it rains.

Little by little I nurture myself every day,

until the rain comes again one day.

If someone tries to steal my water,

I respond with a sting of my thorns!

ACTRESS

If I were an actress, I would do my role well.

I would act with feelings and emotions,

and imagine I was the person I was acting.

Then the filming would go smoothly,

and the watching audience would love it.

SINGER

If I were a singer, I would choose a song I like to sing.

Then I wouldn’t have to worry about forgetting the lyrics,

and I can sing it with my heart.

The stage fright I feel will be disguised, and gradually it will be gone.

YOUTUBE BLOGGER

If I were a YouTube blogger,

I would do crazy but safe challenges.

That way my viewers can enjoy it, and I can stay safe.

My goal would be to earn the diamond play button,

and to have a lot of subscribers.

I would do my best, and come up with something

interesting for every video.

Eiffel Tower  Colosseum  Pyramid

EIFFEL TOWER

If I were the Eiffel Tower, I would glance down

with a proud look as spectators gasp in wonder at my size.

I would look like a giant compared to those people looking at me,

I would feel like I could touch the sky.

I would be in the center of attention like a pop star,

with every tourist glancing at me at least once.

COLOSSEUM

If I were the Colosseum, I would stand tall and proud.

I would let people come inside me and watch as they gasp in awe.

I would let them imagine gladiators fighting lions in me.

Let them look around and explore,

and even sit on the emperor’s watching box.

PYRAMID

If I were a pyramid, I would reach as high as I could.

I would watch as the people inside me marvel at ancient Egyptian things.

From mummies to coffins to hieroglyphics to sarcophagus, I would

watch as they learn all about ancient Egyptian cultures.

I would provide interesting facts about Egyptians and what they did, so

other people can learn all about them back in museums.

PEN

If I were a pen, I would gladly use my ink

to jot down notes for my owner.

I would write smoothly, so that my owner is pleased with me.

I will never write a mistake,

so my owner’s correction tape will hardly be used.

And when my ink is all used up, my owner will know

to buy my fellow pen brothers and sisters to use next time.

TAPES

If I were tapes, I would use my stickiness to hold things together.

I would always do my job well, even if I was used for a prank.

If I knew I was used for evil, I want my stickiness to fade.

I want to be used normally, and never get in trouble.

SET OF PAINTS

If I were a set of paints,

I would be painted on a canvas as colourful as a rainbow.

With dazzling colours of red, blue, green, yellow and more,

I will create a masterpiece!

Along with my friend the paintbrush,

we are the main tools to create the art.

I would learn the wonderful things partners can do together,

and I won’t be alone.
