CHRC DETAILED PROGRAM BRIEF

Delivery of health care services in a CHRC requires not only on call and palliative
medical care but also all the complementary facilities including nursing care, assistance
for children’s parents, space planning and other services.
The absence and non-functionality of one or more of the complementary inputs affect
the quality of services, which are vital for healthy and dignified healing of children.
The Children’s Hospital & Research Centre (CHRC) program for a 100 bed hospital for

Toilets, Circulation spaces and Open Spaces should be judiciously designed which should
comprise minimum of 30% of total built up.
Students have a choice of adding an alternative program (max 150sq.M), which can work in
harmony with the existing program of the ‘Children’s Hospital & Research Centre (CHRC)’ and
help in enhancing the relationships with existing local context.
Rainwater harvesting, solar power, Biogas plant, wastewater treatment, grey water recycling etc.
can be explored as systems which aid the CHRC.
Minimum built up area of the facility has to be 7500 Sq. M minimum
The Area Statements have been provided only to get a sense of volume and overall footprint of
the CHRC for this competition only. It can be molded as per participant’s discretion.
The spatial typologies of the mentioned functions can be critically challenged to meet the
contextual brief of the selected context.
Space programme is indicative to understand spatial arrangements of various departments and it
is not expected out of the participants to give room wise schematic design. Conceptual block
plans commensurate to the area is sufficient.
It is advisable that participants visit pediatric wards in large hospital (Public / Private) and
standalone children’s hospital if possible. This would enable a better understanding of such
facilities and its functional requirements considering young age of the customers.
Students should rethink the way traditional healthcare spaces work to find prolific planning and
experiential alternatives in the local context they choose.
Students should creatively interpret the program to propose new ways of imagining and
experiencing healthcare spaces.
