HYBRID SMART GRID THE FUTURE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

ABSTRACT:

Smart grid is the term generally used to describe the integration of the elements
connected to the electrical grid with an information infrastructure to offer numerous
benefits for both the providers and consumers of electricity. It is an intelligent future
electricity system that connects all supply, grid, and demand elements through an
intelligent communication system. The backbone of a successful smart grid operation is a
reliable, resilient, secure, and manageable standards-based open communication
infrastructure that provides for intelligent linkages between the elements of the grid while
participating in the decision making that delivers value to the utility and supply and
demand entities connected to it.

The concept of a smart grid emerges from the integration of the power systems view of
the electricity grid with its corresponding information systems view. The combined view
that uses the information network to enhance the functioning of the electricity grid is
generally what is called the smart grid. Smart grid provides granting access and capability
for un-interrupted power flow to all customers.
Flexible and fulfilling customers’ needs whilst responding to the changes and challenges
ahead. Its Reliability assures and provides security and quality of supply with best value
through innovation and efficient energy management.

Here in our project we develop the Hybrid Power Generation concept which
utilizes more than one power source for producing electricity. By using multiple mode of
power generation, the demands of the consumers are satisfied all the time. A Hybrid
Power Plant (HPP) which uses combination of different power sources for producing
electrical power. A centralized unit controls the operation of these power sources.
BLOCK DIAGRAM:

DESCRIPTION:

The block diagram of the Hybrid Power Plant (HPP) comprises of photovoltaic modules,
a wind turbine and a diesel engine as a back- up.

HPP is a centralized PV and wind power generation plant, using battery to store the
produced dc current electricity. To cater for emergencies, a conventional diesel generator
is also provided. The main component on HPP is the controller, an electronic device
which automatically control when the back- up diesel engine shall start assisting with
producing electricity.

Here microcontroller monitors the source inputs and load demand on the consumer side
and switches the power sources accordingly. The power from all the sources are utilized
as per demand and also stored using the battery storage.
