Explanation Teacher will lead a short mini lesson review of what constitutes a theme (life
lesson) and what does not (details, characters, specific information).
Students will then be given 3 minutes with an elbow partner to discuss what
Bud, Herman E. Calloway, or another major character might have learned from
their experience in the novel.

Teacher will call time and reiterate the difference between a detail and a theme.
