To make questions, just place “HAVE” at the beginning of a sentence.
To make negative clauses, add “NOT” after “HAVE OR HAS”.

We introduce the Present Perfect tense. We use “this afternoon”, “this evening”,
“today”, “this morning”, and other expressions to support the actions that
started in the past and are not finished at the time of speaking. We also use
Present Perfect tense to announce a recent happening.
· JUST: We use it to express an action that happened a short time ago.

There are two types of clauses:

INDEPENDENT: Independent clauses are the ones that have a whole meaning on their own.

DEPENDENT: They do not have a meaning on their own, but are linked to a main clause.
Usually, they modify a noun giving more information about it, either by describing it or
identifying it.

• When a clause modifies a noun, it is called “Adjective Clause”. It is dependent, so

there will be two clauses linked by a pronoun.
Most common subject pronouns are:
WHO: Used for people
WHICH: Used for things
THAT: Used for people, things, situations, animals, etc.
WHERE: Used for places
WHOSE: Use for belonging
ICE HOCKEY

Ice hockey is played on a large flat area of ice using a 3 Inch flat diameter
vulcanized rubber disk called puck. This puck is often frozen before high
level games to decrease the amount of bouncing and friction on the ice.
The game is contested between two teams of skaters. The game is played all
over North America, Europe and in many other countries around the world
to varying extent.
It is the most popular sport in Canada, Finland, Latvia, Czech Republic and
Slovakia.
The governing body of international play is the 72 member International Ice
Hockey Federation.
Men's ice hockey has been played at the Winter Olympic Games since 1924
and it was in the 1920 Summer Olympics women's ice hockey was added to
the Winter Olympics in 1988.
North American´s National Hockey League is the strongest professional ice
hockey league trying top ice hockey players from around the globe.
The NHL rules are slightly different from those used in Olympic ice hockey over
many categories.
Ice hockey sticks a long L shape sticks made of wood, graphite or composites
with a blade at the bottom that can lie flat on a plane surface. When the stick is
held up right and can curve either way. Legally as to help a left or right hand
player to gain advantage. Ice hockey was frequently played under the name
hockey in England throughout the 19th century and even earlier under various
other names in particular Bandy.
th
In Canada there are 24 reports of hockey laid games in the 19 century before

1875. But the first organized game played in Canada took place on March 3 ,
1875 and featured several McGill university students. The name hockey has no
clear origin it´s first known mention is from the 1773 book Juvenile Sports and
Pastimes to which are prefix memoirs of the author including a new mode of
Infant Education by Richard Johnson whose chapter eleven was titled New
Improvements on the Game of Hockey.

The belief that hockey was mentioned in a 1363 proclamation by King Edward
the III of England is based on modern translation of the proclamation which
was originally in Latin and explicitly forbade the games Pilam Maniulam, Pedi
Vam, Bacularam, Ad Kanu Bukam and Galuram Pugnam.

The English historian and biographer John Strype did not use the word hockey
when he translated the proclamation in 1720.
According to the Austin Hockey Association the word puck derives from the
Scott-Gallic puck or the Irish puck. The blow given by a hurler to the pall with his
caiman or hurly is always called a puck.
While the games origins lie elsewhere, Montreal is at the center of the
development of the sport of contemporary ice hockey.
On March 3rd, 1875 the first organized indoor game was played at Montreal´s
Victoria's Skating Ring between two nine player teams, including James Craig
and several McGill university students. Instead of a ball or orb the game
featured a flat circular piece of wood. The goal post were 8 feet apart. In 1876
the first game played in Montreal was reportedly conducted under the Hockey
Association Rules. The Hockey Association was England field hockey
organization.
In 1877 the gazette published a list of 7 rules, six of which were largely based on
six of the Hockey Association 12 rules. With only minor differences; the one
added rule explained how disputed should be settled.
The McGill University Hockey Club, the first hockey club was founded in 1877.
In the meantime in 1880 the number of players had gone from 9 to 7. The
game became so popular that the first world championship of ice hockey was
featured in Montreal´s Annual Winter Carnival in 1883. The McGill team
captured the Carnival cup. The game was divided into 30 min halves, the
positions were now named left and right wing, center, rover, point, cover point
and goalkeeper.
In 1885, the Montreal City hockey league was established. In 1886 the teams
competing at the winter carnival organized the Amateur Hockey Association of
Canada and played a season compromising challenges to the existing
champion.

SWIMMING

Competitive swimming became popular in the extremely late century. The goal of
competitive swimming is to beat the competitors in any event in water, tennis and
other recreational activities or not good competitive wise.
Swimming in competitions should create the least resistance in order to obtain
maximum speed. However some professional swimmers who do not hold the
national or world ranking are considered the best in regards to their technical skills.
Typically an athlete goes through a cycle of training in which the body is overloaded
with work.

In the beginning and middle segments of the cycle and then the work load is
decreased; in the final stages as a swimmer approaches competition. The practice or
reducing exercise is called tapering, a final stage often refered to as shave and
tapper. The swimmer shaves all exposed hair for the sake of reducing drag and
having a sleeker and hydrodynamic field in the water.

Swimming is an event at the Summer Olympic Games where male and female
athletes compete in 16 of the recognized events each.

Olympic events are held in a 50 feet pool called a long course pool. There are 40
officially recognized individual swimming events in the pool.

The link word to express a conditional is “IF”. The “IF” clause expresses possible conditions.
The main clause expresses the effect of the previous condition.
There are four basic types of conditionals:

The Zero Conditional expresses real situations; something that can happen and the direct
result of a situation.

It expresses something that can happen in the future provided by another existing
situation.
It expresses something that can happen in the future provided by another existing
situation, but this condition or situation is actually impossible.

It expresses a situation that could have happened in the past provided by another
condition that had existed, but actually it did not.

None of the situations expressed on the “IF” clause actually happened, so

none of them happened either.
Expresses a situation that could happen now, provided by other existing condition,
but the truth is that this condition never happened.
SNOWBOARDING

Snowboarding is a recreational activity that involves descending a slope that is covered

with snow while standing on a snowboard attached to the riders feet. The snowboard is
attached using a special boot into a mounted binding.
The development of the snowboarding was inspired by skate boarding, sleeting, surfing
and skiing.

It was developed in the United States in the 1960´s, and became a Winter Olympic sport
in 1998. The first evidence of snowboarding dates back as early as 1910´s, when
people with tied plywood or wooden planks from logs to their feet using fishing string
and horse reins in order to stir themselves downhill's.
Modern snowboarding began in 1965 when Sherman Poppen an engineer in
Muskegon, Michigan invented a toy for his daughters by fasting two skis together and
attaching a rope to one end so they would have some control as she stood on the board
and glided downhill.
Dubbed the snuffer by his wife Nancy, the toy proved so popular among his daughter's
friends that Poppen licensed the idea to a manufacturer Brunswick Corp. that sold about
a million snuffers over the next decade. And in 1966 alone, over half a million snuffers
were sold.

Since snowboarding inception as an established winter sport, it has developed various

styled. Each with its specialized equipment and technique. The most common styles are
free ride, free style and freecarve race. These styles are used for both recreational and
professional snowboarding. While each style is unique, there is an overlap between
them.
