ABSTRACT
After a close analysis of a few homes in Esigodini , the exhibitor noted that after

that some homesteads hardly have any storage facilities for soap and most

would carelessly just place them on the floors and window sills which would

otherwise leave the soap open to germs or cause the slipping and falling of some

individuals if it is placed on the floor. Some bathrooms were often messy and

disorderly , some did not even have any bathroom cabinets. In one household

toothbrushes were placed together with hair combs in a tumbler on the cistern or

on window sills whilst the windows were opened. This tumbler tumbled into

the toilet bowl with thousands of germs and it remained floating there. In any

case they would have to remove it. After such a scenario the exhibitor sought

ways of avoiding the stated incident and neatly storing all required toiletries in a

single cabinet in the most convenient way he thought possible. That is by

constructing a cabinet with compartments, sections and hangers best capable of

housing toiletries.

The exhibitor then devised a bathroom cabinet that was both neat, compact and

quite capable of storing and housing bathroom and toilet necessities such as

tooth brushes, toothpaste, bathing towel towel, soap, tissue paper, perfumes,

cups (for rinsing the mouth after brushing), clothing pegs. The cabinet took the

exhibitor two weeks to construct and design.

The Methodical Bathroom was sent twice for testing and three of my teachers at

my school namely Miss Zondo, Mr Mlilo and Miss Ndudzo loved the product

they responded positively and loved it.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In Umzingwane District and most specifically Esigodini some families often fail

to maintain a clean and tidy bathroom for example the Dubes’ and Ncubes’ fail

to house their toiletries in the most neat and hygienic way.Often toothbrushes

and hairbrushes are stored in a single cup and left on top of a cistern. This could

otherwise result in it falling into the toilet bowl infested with a number of

germs. In any case they would have to remove it.After such a scenario the

exhibitor sought ways of avoiding the stated incident and neatly storing all

required toiletries in a single cabinet in the most convenient way he thought

possible. That is by constructing a cabinet with compartments, sections and

hangers best capable of housing toiletries.

The exhibitor planed on basing his study on the whole of Zimbabwe.

Scientific concepts and principles

SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS

The project considers the functional health perspectives of the cabinet in the

bathroom for example storing toiletries in a chronological order and curbing

lack hygiene. The engineering and design in wood technology is also

considered. Drawings based on plan, elevations and dimensions as well as

scaling.

SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES
Wood technology involves such principles as accuracy in measurement and

precision in assembly. Such skills as cutting, planning, designing, painting and

varnishing are critical components of wood technology.

SCIENTIFIC PROCESSES

These include planning, designing ,cutting, plaining, painting and varnishing all

critical components of wood technology , and distribution of the cabinet.
