P R Q 3 2 3 2 SECOND REVIEW I-2020

1. In a CSTR, there is an exothermic chemical reaction, the temperature is controlled by means

of a liquid circulating in a jacket which is maintained at a uniform temperature Tj. Determine
the time required to reach 60% conversion of the limiting reagent for the following reaction:
A+A-->S.

Initial conditions:
Reactor feed flow F = 50 ml/s
Reactor volume V = 2000 ml
Reactant concentration in the feed stream
CAo = 5 g.mol/l
Feed stream temperature To = 273ºK
Reaction heat ΔH = -10000 cal/g.mol
Overall coefficient of heat transfer U = 100 cal/(ºC s m 2)
Heat transfer area A = 0.02 m2
Jacket fluid temperature Tj = 330ºK
Specific heat reaction mass Cp = 1 kcal/(kg ºC)
Reaction mass density ρ = 1 kg/l
Reaction rate constant k = 1*1013exp(-23200/(1.987 T)) L/(g.mol s)

The program should display the results in a table and a graph of variation of temperature and
concentration versus time. Use the Runge Kutta fourth order.

2. Calculate the necessary time, so that the liquid contained in a horizontal cylindrical tank, which
has a radius of 2 meters and a length of 4 meters, which is full to a height of 3 meters, decreases
in height from 3 to 1 meter. The exit speed through a hole of 10 cm. in diameter, located in the
inner part of the tank is 𝑣 = 5.5√ℎ. (h height of the liquid (water)). Develop the model and solve
by Runge Kutta 4th order method. (Graph the results high vs. time).

NOTE: THE EXAM MUST BE COMPLETED AT 18:00... YOU WILL THEN HAVE 10 MINUTES TO
SEND THE PROGRAM ON FILE “m”. YOU WILL THEN HAVE 20 MINUTES TO SEND THE
SCANNED MODEL IN PDF FILE. ONCE MOODLE IS CLOSED, THE EXAM CANNOT BE
SUBMITTED BY ANY OTHER MEANS. YOU MUST CONTROL YOUR TIMES.
THE FILE "m" MUST CARRY "apellido_nombre_P1.m" (P1 question 1, P2 question 2)
THE LEAVES MUST BEAR THEIR NAME AND C.I.

Luck...
