A CASE STUDY OF A MEDIUM SIZED PUBLIC BUILDING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE

TO INTEGRATED LIGHTING DESIGN AND NOISE CONTROL

STUDY MUST COVER ASPECTS OF:-

1. INTEGRATED LIGHTING DESIGN - clever use of artificial lights to achieve desired effect/
suitable application of artificial lighting and integration with natural lighting.
2. ARCHITECTURAL ACOUSTICS - understanding of noise sources (within and from outside the
building) consideration in reducing noise level/ special design or details applied/ acoustic properties
in building materials/ selection of finishes for F/W/C)

OBSERVATION AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON:

- Types of artificial lighting used inside and outside the building.
- The location and position of lighting fixtures (wall/ floor or roof)
- The size of openings to optimize natural lighting (full-height opening/ floor to ceiling/
maximum width)
- Source of indoor and outdoor noise
- Techniques/ methods used to reduce noise level and improve acoustic properties for the interior
spaces (by means of design, details or selected materials with acoustical properties)

Note: Building for case study must be proposed by students and approved by the lecturer before students can
proceed with their assignment.
