The play was performed at Theatro Ibabawnon at Eastern Samar State University and

was entitled “Ang mga nakaraan, pangarap at hula sa Tagna”, by the direction of Sir Eduardo
Lingan. It intends to impart knowledge to the audience the various social issues and one of
them is poverty and this problems leads a common Filipino to work abroad just to make them
live their life in simply way and getting themselves out of the problem poverty.
The story or the play take place in kalyeng tagna which is a place in the Philippines. The
characters was Zaida Porteza as Alonda, Eloisa mae danios as Miss Agatha, Ariel Dalina as
Tope, Rogelene Alatar as Panyang, Reynaldo Madeja as Anton, and Jerome Diongon as Baldo.
Tagna was all about the story of Alonda that was searching for successful and better life. She
has the ambition to get her family out of the inconsolable social status which is poverty. She
wants to live on a beautiful house, to eat foods of rich people and to wear gorgeous and elegant
clothes. The conflict of the story is that Alonda and Panyang tried their best to get out of their
problem by going to Japan for work and they was thinking that it would be the solution of their
problem. As they took their opportunity in Japan, they worked as club dancers dressed with
fitted clothes, painted their face by make up, and wore high heels. As they dance on the stage
of darkness, they experienced cruelty and brutality from the Japanese people. The conflict was
resolved by not giving up to their dream to get them up to a woeful proverty.
The elements present in the story was the characters (main and supporting artors and
actresses), the plot of the story which were delivered chronologically, the setting of the story
which is done in the Philippines and their social condition which gives them the problem in the
story, and lastly the theme of the story which makes us think about the problem of the society
and gives us the message-do not give up on dreams and make ways to achieve those dreams.
Other art forms was also visible in the play which was dance, music and arts costumes.
The advocacy that was carried by the story was the human rights which is now
struggling as a vague problem in the society. People must have their rights to avail basic needs
such as education for us not to make our life more messy and get those dreams into reality. We,
as common people of the Philippines must not be discriminated for what we are and for what we
have, we also have lives to feed and to cherish to make more opportunity and to make our
dreams come true. The story was not merely entertainment but was making the audience the
reality and the true situation of the low class people am also to make us realize that life must not
be stuck on what we are now but we can do more to it. The content of the play is somewhat
encouraging the audience to make your dreams come true by being always thinking positively,
not giving up easily and having a bountiful and overflowing trust in God. The social issues
present in the play was poverty and woman violence. The production greatly influenced the
audience that they perfectly imparted what they were trying to make us realize.
The play was a heartwarming act which makes me realize that our journey in this life is
not just to live but to ambition more and live our life to the fullest. The story encourages me to
work hard in this life because life is not worth living if we have nothing to live. I am actually doing
it that this story does not make me change my perspective about life but it encourages me more
to work even harder.
