1. Homologation
The monorail SAFEACCESS and the platform form a building maintenance unit.
The equipment has been designed and tested according to standard EN 1808 “Suspended
Access Equipment”
The main characteristics are :
- Number of users 2 or 240 kg
- Overall dimensions of platform 200x80x100 cm
- Dead weight of platform 400 kg
- Lifting height 60 m.
- Suspended load on monorail 2 x 400 kg
- Minimum distance between suspension cables 2 m.
- Maximum distance between brackets 3 m.
- Curved section having a minimum radius of 600 mm.

2. Application
The monorail SAFEACCESS consist of a aluminium rail fixed on top of building from which
the platform is suspended. Manually or powered trolleys allow the traversing of the
platform along the façade. The lifting is done by traction hoists attached to the platform.
The platform may be suspended to a double or a single suspension cable sees Fig. 1 & 2.

3. Platform components
The platform consists of the following components:

3.1 Platform structure

3.2 The hoists
3.3 The safety features
3.4 The cables
3.5 The electric panels

3
3.1. Platform structure for 2 persons
The platform consists of a tubular aluminium structure, covered by perforated panels with a
height of 110 cm. The platform is designed for two people and their tools or 240 kg. The
effective area of the floor is 200 x 80 cm. All the mechanical parts are placed inside the
platform; this arrangement provides good protection against damage due to shock. The
platform is equipped with rollers rolling on the façade.

4
3.2. Platform for 1 person

The platform consists of a tubular aluminium structure, covered by perforated panels with a
height of 110 cm. The platform is designed for 1 person and his tools or 120 kg. The effective
area of the floor is 140 x 80 cm. All the mechanical parts are placed inside the platform; this
arrangement provides good protection against damage due to shock. The platform is
equipped with rollers rolling on the façade.

5
3.3. The hoists

The hoists mounted on the platform are electrically powered by a 400 volt three phase supply,
the nominal capacity of the hoists is 400 kg. The hoists is designed and manufactured to meet
the requirements of the EN1808 standard. It is equipped with a service break automatically
closing in case of lack of current. The brake can be opened manually in case of power failure,
the operator can return to the ground at a controlled speed of 9 m / min. The hoists are
equipped with a fall arrest device acting directly on the secondary cable that stops
automatically the platform. The fall arrest device is activated during an over speed condition
caused by a breakage of the rope or a failure of the hoist leading to a dangerous tilt of the
platform’s floor.

3.4. The safety features

3.4.1. Top and ultimate limit switches
A striker plate is fixed on the suspension cables. When the top limit switch hits the plate, the
platform stops and only the lowering movement is possible. In case of failure of the top limit
switch, an ultimate limit switch cuts the main contactor. The users will lower the platform by
opening the brake fitted on the hoists until the ultimate top limit switch is disengaged.

3.4.2. Overload and under load devices

A under load device fitted on the hoists, stops the descent if the tension in the rope is too low.
An overload also equips the hoists; it stops the lifting in cases of overload. Overloading is factory
calibrated to a value equal to 125% of the payload of the platform or 300 kg.

3.4.3.Anti collision bar

A anti-collision bar fixed below the floor, stops the lowering in case of collision with an obstacle.

3.5. The cables

The platform is suspended to 2 suspension cables and 2 secondary cables. The cables have a 8
mm diameter and are in galvanised steel, breaking load is 35 KN. The cables are stored on 2
powered double reelers fixed below the hoists; reelers have a capacity of 2 x 60 m of cables.

6
3.6. Electric box

The electrical box contains all the switches and safety devices that ensure control of the
platform. The control of the movements lifting and traverse are done by push buttons “dead
man type".
The box is equipped with:
- An emergency stop button,
- A lockable main switch,
- A power on / off button,
- A selector for controlling simultaneous or separate hoists,
- A red light showing overload of platform
The pending power cable is connected to the electric box and stored in a container. The
container is mounted at the rear of the platform and allows storage of 60 m electric cable

4. SafeAccess components
The Fallprotec SafeAccess system comprises the following components:

4.1 The rail

4.2 Junction
4.3 Brackets
4.4 Curves
4.5 Trolley NAV 2
4.6 Trolley NAV 1

4.1 The rail

The rail is made from aluminium alloy ENAW6060 T6. This alloy is capable of withstanding a
marine environment, and thanks to the anodized treatment no electrolytic corrosion will take
place between the steel structure and the rail.
The rail itself is available in anodized natural aluminum (light grey) and can be adapted to
several kinds of configurations, wall, ceiling.
Rail is available in 3 or 6 meter length. The rail weighs is 5.0 kg /m.

Fig. 2. Rail

8
4.2 Junction
Each section of rail is connected to the next one by a junction section (rectangular tube) fixed
by nailing or riveting, 4 grooves show the fixings position. To allow the rail temperature
expansion, a gap of 2mm should be maintained between two lengths of rail.
The distance between the nearest bracket and the junction can be up to a maximum of 500
mm. The junction should ideally be located nearby or on the bracket.
If the junction is located more than 500 mm from the bracket, recommending to install
(bolt) some fishplate in steel on the joints as additional reinforcement.

Fig. 3. Junction

Fig. 4. Distance between junction and bracket

4.1. Bracket
A bracket should be placed at each end of the rail and at regular intervals. The maximum
distance between two adjacent brackets should not exceed 3 meters.
The standard length of the bracket is 600 mm measured from the façade; other dimensions
may be supplied according to building layout.

Fig. 5. Distribution of brackets along the facade

9
4.1.1. Wall bracket
The rail is hanging up to the wall through brackets.
Two special bolts (T bolt M10 quality 8x8) sliding in a groove allow the fixing of the rail to the
bracket assembly. The standard length of the bracket is 600 mm measured from facade; the
bracket is fixed on the concrete wall by 4 M16 bolts.

L bracket for supporting existing bracket is designed according to the site condition, without L bracket cannot
connect rail track directly to the existing bracket.

10
4.2. Curved section
The rail may be bent, with a radius of 600 mm or more. The rail is bent in the factory with a
straight length at both ends, as shown Fig.10. The same curved section may be used for an
internal or external 90° curve thanks to the rail section symmetry. Two brackets are installed
on both ends of the curved section, before the junction.

4.3. NAV trolley
Two NAV trolleys are required for a two suspension cable platform and one NAV trolley is
required for a single suspension platform, the maximum weight which can be suspended on the
trolley is 400 kg. The parts are in stainless steel and the rollers are in plastic to minimise the
wearing of the rail
The NAV 1 trolley is manually operated; it consists of the following components:
- 2 sets of plastic rollers
- Two anchor points, one for the suspension cable and one for the secondary cable
- A hand wheel for manual traverse of the trolley.
The NAV 4 trolley is powered with a 400 Volt 50 Hz tri phase motor; the motor is fitted with
an electromechanical brake and the casing is in aluminium.
