Week 1

Introduction

Introduction to the Class and Project Management in Contemporary Organizations

Project Management & Strategic Planning

Project Selection Criteria, Models, Understanding Risks, Alignment

The Project Manager

The role of the project manager; characteristics and attributes of Successful project managers;
challenges of managing projects in a multicultural, global environment

Assignment: Each Student has to propose a project that can be executed within the next 4 weeks.
Prepare a scope statement and define requirements.

Week 2

Project Organization and the Project Teams

Understanding the various types of organizations and how project teams fit into the
organization? Discovering structure, nature of the team environment, success factors and
problems with project teams; Developing definition of team member roles and the organization
of project teams

Project Planning

Initial Project Coordination through Integration Management;

Conflict and Negotiation

The project planning systems, work breakdown structure analysis, negotiation and conflict
resolution to facilitate planning.

Assignment: 1. Prepare list of Project dependencies, Project Teams and Organization Chart.

Week 3

Scheduling

The process and guidelines for developing a schedule; the construction of Gantt Charts

The process and guidelines for developing a resource plan, resource loading
Risk Management

Discussion of how risks are identified and determined in a plan, the process for optimizing a
plan, the risk management process and methodologies

Assignment: Build project schedules for your projects; Define resources, Timelines and take risks into
consideration for the schedule. Produce a document that outlines the risks, dependencies and
assumptions that you have made.

Week 4

Resource Allocation

Discussing the process of allocation scarce and non-existent resources

Project Monitoring

The guidelines and methods to control a project

Project Control

The types and characteristics of project control systems, variance analysis, and corrective
actions.

Project Reporting and Termination

The project reporting methods, project termination rationale, lessons learned. Preparing the
final project report

Assignment: Expand on your project schedule

Week 5: Time to prepare final projects and presentations

Project Integration

Bringing the Project together; Team Project Hard Copies are due before class.

Each Student identifies their work in Project.

Project Presentations: Present your project to the class.

Everyone presents their portion of their Project. 4 minutes each. Students report remotely, like
all good project mangers do.
