Guayasamín was born in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, on July 6, 1919.

He had native
father and a Mestiz mother, both of Kichwa descent. He graduated from the School of
Fine Arts in Quito as a painter and sculptor. He held his first exhibition when he was 23,
in 1942. Guayasamín started painting from the time he was six years old.
He loved to draw from that age. Starting from watercolors and transforming all the way
through to his signature humanity pieces, his art career had many highlights. When he
was young, he enjoyed drawing caricatures of his teachers and the children that he played
with. He was outstanding Ecuadorian painter, draftsman, sculptor graphic designer and

His humanist work, marked as expressionist, reflects the pain and misery that the larger
part of humanity has endured, and denounces the violence that every human being has
had to live with in this monstrous 20th. Century marked by the world wars, civil wars,
genocide, concentration camps, dictatorships, and tortures. In 1943, Guayasamín spent
seven months in the United States, touring various museums in order to study the works of
Goya and El Greco, among other masters of painting.

The age of anger was a series. This series consists of 260 works grouped within smaller
categories, such as hands, heads, The man’s face, and others. The age of anger has been
considered one of the greatest achievements in the twentieth-century painting inspired by
politics.

Oswaldo was named president of the house culture of Quito. About his work Oswaldo
Guayasamin was know for expressing in most of his work the pain, tenderness and anger
of many of the situations in our lives. Among his main works we find Mountain Head, the
