Machines and plants for the low pressure and gravity die casting
AUTOMATION

A complete range of equipment and technology for the aluminium foundry industry

Established some 35 years ago, Foundry Automation specializes in the design and manufacture of:
• Fully automated iron green sand molding machines and plants
• Core shooters (hot box – cold box – shell) for both iron and aluminium core shops
• Sand preparation – gassing and scrubbing equipment – etc.

With a view of further integrating the current product range, Foundry Automation has entered the aluminium casting sector by introducing
innovative state-of-the-art low pressure and gravity die casting equipment as well as peripheral process automation (pouring robots-
manipulators-semi finishing-etc.). The above inclusive, whenever required, of process technology that can be supplied, in co-operation
with our partner, under the form of a fully tested turnkey package consisting of tooling (molds and core boxes), process technology
transfer and training of Customer’s personnel.
Today, Foundry Automation can be considered an actual global player that can put at the disposal of the Customers a fully comprehensive
range of foundry machines together with its competence and experience accrued in decades of contribution to the foundry industry as
a whole. Thanks to this background, our machines can already be seen in use at leading captive and independent (jobbing) aluminium
foundries worldwide.

For the low pressure diecasting technology

Foundry Automation is the Division specialized in the design and manufacture of aluminium and magnesium low pressure die casting
machines and plants. The basic machine can be fitted with innovative features, most of them patented, addressing important aspects
such as easy furnace access and handling, quick mold changeover, etc., that can make the casting unit even more effective. Our machines
are designed in accordance with the most demanding quality standards and can be adapted to the various Customer’s production
requirements to make components that go beyond the traditional wheel. It is no secret that our machines lend themselves to make a
wide variety of major automotive components like cylinder heads, suspension arms, wheel hubs, sub plates, etc. The furnace (furnace
lining - multi injection provision), the vertical press structure (tilting upper platen) and the inherent accuracy of the standard controls,
are the keys to achieve these results. Again and again, Foundry Automation can supply the so called turnkey packages including the
peripheral automation and the process starting from the as cast component design to the tooling manufacture (mold-core box) and
technology transfer. This is the logical approach that has enabled our machines to become increasingly popular among the leading
foundries of this sector at home and abroad.

The controls
The consistency of casting quality mainly depends upon the mold filling through the furnace pressurization.
Our machines can be fitted either with proportional valve or the BAC system.
Both systems enable a perfect and repeatable pressurization in 8 phases, thus compensating the molten metal level in the furnace as
well as possible air leakage.
The controls supervision relies upon an industrial PC unit which allows an easy input of all the casting, cooling and temperature parameters
that are then stored and, if required, printed out.
Finally, the system can be connected to the main computer network, thus enabling the overall foundry plant supervision.

The holding furnace

Even in its basic configuration, our furnace is constructed
according to high quality standards related to the overall concept
that addresses both the lining lifetime and simplicity of time
consuming operations such as maintenance and safer metal
charge-discharge, thanks to the large charging door.
It can also be fitted with the tilting feature (option) in order to
further ease those operations. Constructed with capacities ranging
from 600 to 1200 kgs, they are equipped with 3 heating elements
consisting of 3 silicon carbide glow bars placed above the molten
metal level and duly protected against metal splashes.

In the case of “turn key” packages including
process technology, Foundry Automation is in a
position to conduct casting trials on behalf of the
Customer in order to carry out a preliminary setting
of the casting parameters.

For the gravity diecasting technology

The production of vital automotive components
such as cylinder heads, intake manifolds,
pistons, etc., requires foundry equipment that
can address the needs of our Customers in
terms of quality and process repeatibility.
Designed to cope with these requirements, our
new gravity diecasting machines again confirm
that innovation forms an integral part of our
attitude.
Our most valuable and satisfied Customers are
fully aware of the importance to have a real
partner like Foundry Automation capable of
proposing effective solutions to their existing
and future production requirements.
Foundry Automation is therefore in a position
to supply both multi station in line and carousel
type casting plants together with process
automation and the thereto related semi finishing
equipment.
This is the key to the increasing success of
Foundry Automation also in this other field
of activity.
