Equipment Commissioning and Maintenance

Motor Operation and Maintenance:

Operation:
The deviation between supply voltage and rated voltage must not exceed
±5%, the three-phase voltage unbalance is not exceed 1.5%. The working
current must not exceed the rated current on the nameplate, and the three-
phase current unbalance is not exceed 80%. Otherwise, the motor will be
over-heat or even burned out. The displayed temperature of motor surface on
thermometer should not exceed 80℃, the bearing temperature should not
exceed 95℃. Keep the motor clean, dry and well ventilation. The air inlet and
outlet should be well ventilated. Cut off the power supply with occurrence of
the following fault: smoking, violent vibration, abnormal noise, strange odor,
dramatic decline of the rotation speed; mal-function of loading equipment;
electric shock.

Maintenance:
Well lubrication of the motor bearing. The bearing should be maintained by
adding or replacing lubrication grease after 3000-5000h operation. The brand
of lubrication grease is ZL-3 Lithium Lubricating Grease. Bearing inspection
should be undertaken when the motor has left unused over 2 years. Add or
replace the lubrication grease when necessary.
Sealed bearing should be installed with motor center height of 132mm or
below. Open bearing should be installed with motor center height above
160mm. There is no need for sealed bearing to replace the lubrication grease;

the grease of open bearing should be replaced at regular intervals. The


lubrication grease should be filled with adequate amount, which is generally
one third(1/3) to a half (1/2) of the cavity between the inner and outer ring of
the bearing. Motors, equipped with grease filling device, can be filled by
grease gun for 3 to 4 times. Open the cover plate or discharge port at the
bottom of the bearing cap before filling. Close the cover plate and the
discharge port after the motor keep running over 20 minutes. The equipment
should be powered off when dismounting the drain plug or the cover plate.

Speed Reducer:
Lubricating: Cycloid Speed Reducer should adopt bath lubrication under
normal circumstances. The oil level should be in the middle of the oil
inspection window. Circular lubricating can be adopted in high temperature
and severe working condition. 40# lubricating oil is always used to lubricate
the reducer. Other types of lubricating oil should also be taken into
consideration when working under high or low temperature. Open the vent
cap to fill the oil. Open the oil drainage plug to release the sump oil. The
adequate oil level should be above the half of the oil pipe or the oil meter, and
should not be less or more than that. Excessive filling will lead to the over-
heat of the reducer and shorten the service life. Less oil will make the gear
drive without lubrication, then it will damage the inner structure of the reducer.
Reducer will be lubricated before delivery. Please check the appropriate
model of the lubrication oil fitting with the reducer before manufacturing. The
oil should be replaced after 100 hours running at first time (get rid of the sump
oil). Replace the lubrication oil every half year (8-hour working system) under
consecutive operation system. When working in poor environment, shorten
the oil replacing interval. Experience and practice prove that frequent clean
and replacement of the oil (such as 3 to 6 months) play an important role to

prolong the service life of the reducer. Lubrication grease should be added
frequently during the whole operating process.

Belt Conveyor:
Reducer should be lubricated with oil or grease till the half of the oil meter or
oil pipe. Excessive filling will result in over-heat of the reducer box and
shorten the service life of the reducer and motor. Lubricating grease should
also be added with proper amount. Excessive grease will damage the bearing
by overheating.

Inspect the tensity of the driving chain and the parallelism of the chain wheel.
Loose chain will damage the chain and chain wheel, then shorten the service
life. Inadequate parallelism or loose chain will result in chain skip, or even
break the reducer pedestal. Firstly, check the belt after switch-on, and check
whether the belt is installed between the head pulley and tail pulley. If the belt
is off-tracking, switch the equipment off and adjust it. If the belt off-tracking
occurs in the position of head or tail pulley, and conveyor is not equipped with
adjustable lead screw, then loosen the reducer pedestal on belt-oriented side
and block it up. After tightening the screw on bearing pedestal, switch the
conveyor on till the belt move back between the head and tail pulley. If the
adjustable lead screw is available, adjust it. Frequent inspection should be
undertaken during production, the belt should be always tighten. Loose belt
will lead the belt slip on the head pulley, and finally rub the belt off. The
overlong belt will make the adjustment impossible. Cut the belt from the joint
section and re-make the belt joint. Long-time conveyance of the high
temperature pellet will extend the belt, especially for the belt conveyor under
the pellet mill. Inspect the set screw in the base angle of the reducer
frequently, stop the equipment and tighten the screw when the looseness

occurs. Most of the breakage of the base angle of the reducer are caused by
the beating shock of the loosing screw. After the operation of 100 hours, the
oil of the reducer should be replaced. Fresh oil should be filled at 3 to 6
months intervals.

2. Sawdust Screener:
Lubrication grease should be filled before the commissioning of the Sawdust
Screener. Inspect the impurities inside the screen drum. Impurities by
installation will result in the deformation and damage of the screen. Clean up
the impurities and mend the worn screener in time. Select the suitable screen
according to the material of different specification. The screener is equipped
with standard screen before leaving factory. If the screen is unsuitable, users
should replace the screen in time. The screener should run smoothly and
without blocking after switch-on. If blocking, check whether the chain wheel is
skipping. If skipping occurs, adjust the tension of the chain and the parallelism
of the chain wheel, then check the main shaft, if it is deformed, adjust it
immediately. If great deformation occurs, the main shaft should be replaced.
Long staff and block should be prevented before the raw material goes into
the screener. Long staff is easy to get the screen drum stuck at the impurity
outlet, then deforms the screen drum or even burns the motor out. Much
sawdust and wood shavings screened from impurity outlet, it indicates that the
pore is too small. If nothing can be screened from the outlet, it means the
screen pore is too big.

Hammer Mill:
Operation
1. Air Flow Regulation: Adjust the air inlet on the Feeder to guarantee the
reasonable air volume of the Hammer Mill; Adjust the air inlet on the

operation gate to facilitate the sieving of the material.


2. Clockwise and Anti-clockwise Rotation Adjustment: Hammer Mill can work
clockwise and anti-clockwise by changing the direction of the feeding
guide mechanism. Such change will improve the utilization of hammer and
sieve plate.
3. Based on the regulation of production assortment, change the
specification of sieve plate by following the instruction of central control.
The rough side of the sieve plate should be installed inwards. The
installation should be precise without seam.
4. The magnetic separation device of the Hammer Mill should be cleaned up
by each shift.
5. Inspect the integrity and tightness of the spare parts, especially the high-
speed spare parts like hammer. Such spare part must be tightened.
6. Inspect the lubrication of bearing at regular time.
7. Open the gate of hammer mill, inspect whether there are the impurities in
the crush chamber and check the tightness of the press sieve by.
8. Inspect the wearing of the sieve plate, hammer and pin. Replace in time.
9. Switch the equipment on by securing human and machine. Feed after 2 to
3 minutes idling. The air draft system should be of normal operation
condition before feeding.
10. Both production and feed should be gradually adding until balanced feed
can be achieved. The motor should work under rated voltage load.
11. The machine should work idling for 1 to 2 minutes when finishing
operation. it could be powered off when motor drives all crumbled material
out.

Maintenance of the Hammer and Screen:


1. When one side of the hammer blunt, reverse it. YOUSHENG Hammer Mill
is equipped with simple perforation hammer. When both sides are worn,

then the hammer should be replaced to guarantee the static and dynamic
balance of the rotor.
When both sides are worn, all of the hammers should be replaced. The
arrangement should be complied with the provision of Operation Manual.
The weight of each group of hammers should not exceed 5 grams.
2. After removing the hammer ( remove one pin a time), inspect the pin, wear
plate, distance collar between the hammers and other inner spare parts. If
these spare parts are worn, they should be removed and replaced.
3. The burr side should be installed inward, while the glaze side should be
installed outward. The sieve and the shelf must be installed without any
seam.
4. The machine must be cleaned thoroughly in each shifting of duty. Remove
the dustiness, in case of rusting and sieve blocking. Meanwhile, such
practice can keep the bearing free of dust.
5. Regular inspection, cleaning and lubrication of bearing. 80 grams grease
should be lubricated on the bearing for each 400 hours operation.
6. Mend and change the spare part when severe wear and damage occurs.
The repaired rotors must pass the balance examination.

Sawdust Pellet Mill:


Provisions below should be complied before the switch-on and operation of
Pellet Mill:

1. Lubricate each lubricating point, 68# industrial enclosed gear oil should be
filled into the Pellet Mill box; Without dropping point and thermo stability
grease should be filled into the roller and main shaft, and could bear the
temperature between 320℃ to 360℃. Lubrication enables the driving part of
the pellet mill to operate flexibly and reduce the work load.

2. Replace the lubrication oil regularly. The oil of the new machine should be
replaced about half month. After that, the oil should be replaced about 1000
hours of consecutive working. Such practice can prolong the service life of the
gear.
3. Each shift must carefully inspect the inter-connecting pieces of each part,
and see if they become less crowed or the position switch is reliable. The
Feed Screw Conveyor and Conditioner should also be cleaning up to avoid
mechanical fault.
4. Each shift should inspect the driving key, lining ring of roller and wearing of
the hoop. If there is any abrasion, replace the old one to avoid vibration. Such
vibration will reduce the capacity or will even crack the race rotation and the
ring die.
5. Superior quality ring die and roller are required. Inferior ring die, such ass
out-of-round and coarse inner pore are rejected to be put into production.
Select the compression ratio of the ring die according to different materials.
Qualified ring die will enable the smooth discharge, power consumption
reduction and capacity improvement.

6. Each shift should adjust the gap between roller and ring die. An ideal

status should be a slight contact between the vertex of roller and ring die, then
manually operate the race rotation, the roller is likely to be “half-run”. If the
gap is too large and the roller is unable to rotate, it will result in the blockage
of machine. If the gap is too small, the abrasion between roller and ring die
will be much severe. It will even damage the ring die and roller. The gap
between roller and ring die should be checked at least each 4 hours. The
adjustment direction of roller should be noticed when adjusting (Arrow signals
of correct adjustment direction could be found on the Gap Regulation Wheel).

The force moment by the rollers on the pellet mill shaft should be zero (0) to
prevent the pellet mill from the influence of symmetrical force.

7. The collocation of roller and ring die should be both brand-new or old. Such
practice is to make the roller and ring die be copy-shaped. The partial gap
between roller and ring die should be almost the same. The stress on the
roller should be even and the discharge will be uniformed to improve the
production capacity. In case of blockage, the roller should be loosened and
cleaned up on the inwall, readjust the gap between roller and ring die. Forced
switch-on is forbidden to avoid the damage caused by severe vibration
between driving part and bearing.
8. Over-load production is prohibited. The production should not go beyond
the operation capability of the pellet mill, or the service life will be shortened
by the damaged motor and spare parts.
9. Material magnetic separation should be undertaken. Each shift should
clean up the magnetic device to prevent the impurities from getting into the
operation chamber. Otherwise, it will result in vibration of machine body and
ring die cracking.

Analysis of FAQ
Ring Die Crack Causes:
1. Severe wearing (obvious wearing of the key) of the locating key of ring die.
Many users are impatient to replace the ring die, they always don’t replace
the original ring die until it is abandoned. Such behavior is definitely wrong.
Ring die should be checked at intervals (7 to 10 days) so that the fault
could be eliminated.
2. Severe wearing of lining ring (obvious wearing on the contact surface
between inwall of ring die and lining ring, the lining ring should be replaced

in time.).
3. Hard materials are squeezed into the ring die (metal object like bearing
ball in the pellet mill chamber).
4. The gap between roller and ring die is too small.
5. The clasping surface of the roller is severe worn; loose hoop clamp and
the hoop clam not reach the bottom will damage the ring die.

What are the main causes of shock of main shaft of Pellet Mill? How to deal
with them?
The shock can be caused by following problems:
1. Fail to tighten the tail of shaft
2. Large gap between keyway of main shaft tail and driving shaft; large gap
between driving shaft and safety keyway; large gap between spline of
main shaft and its base.
3. large gap between safety pin and pin bush; large gap between safety pin
bush and its base.
4. transformation of main shaft flange or the abrasion of bearing.
5. the inner pore of the ring die is not round
6. uneven adjustment between the gap of two rollers
7. the excessive worn cooper or steel bush inside the safety pin must be
replaced in time.

Solutions:
1. Check whether the main shaft is tightened. Remove the oil filling system
on the rear, then remove the main shaft gland to check whether the
belleville spring transformed. If the spring has become flat, the old one
should be replaced (the quantity and location of the spring should be same
with the original ones). Then tighten the lock screw of the main shaft

gland, switch the equipment on and see if the main shaft is vibrating.
2. If vibration remains, the main shaft gland should be removed, support the
main shaft with the copper rib, then strike the main shaft in the direction of
ring die. Remove the gas tight cover of main shaft to check whether the
main shaft bearing is well equipped. If the gap is too large, the original
bearing should be replaced by a new one, then install the main shaft in
sequence and tightened.
3. The position of the inner race of main shaft bearing should be set right, so
that the main shaft can be assembled in place. The right place means that
the distance between the both end faces of the main shaft and end face of
driving wheel is around 10mm. When the tolerance fit of spline, keyway,
safety pin is too large, and the shape of inwall of ring die is not round, then
the above-mentioned components should be replaced. Switch on and
check the vibration after the installation of the main shaft.
4. Adjust the gap between the roller and ring die after the normal operation of
main shaft. The gaps of both side should be the same, or it will result in
the vibration of the main shaft, blocking of discharging and unstable
current.

Main Factors of Noise and Vibration of Pellet Mill:


1. If the vibration is caused by unstable transmission of raw material, adjust
the feeding speed;
2. If mal-distribution is caused by deflection scraper abrasion, replace the old
one;
3. If it is collocation problem that the ring die doe not match with the roller, it
would be better to use both new ring die and roller;
4. If the gap between the rollers and ring die is inconformity with the material,
then adjust the roller aperture;
5. Caused by the roller. Collocation of new and old rollers or wearing and
damage of the roller.
6. Get rid of the impurities in the granulating bin on sight of them;
7. Replace the original one, when the main shaft bearing is worn or

Unstable Current of Pellet Mill:


1. Incorrect adjustment of the gap between roller and ring die.
2. Severe wearing of the scraper and uneven feed of material. (Inner part of
the ring die and uneven wearing of the ring die pore can always be found
when granulating. Adjust the angle of inner and outer scraper and its
length to make the even press on the material.)
3. Oversized coarse power material can be found in semi-product or return
material. (The screener has been damaged)
4. High moisture of the raw material will make the uneven mixing.

Crisp Pellet with a lot of powder:


Control the capacity, improve the compression ratio of ring die and adjust the
moisture of raw material.
Less Pellet and flaw on one side of pellet
High moisture of raw material and low compression ratio. Adjust the moisture
or improve the compression ratio.

Blocking of ring die pore:


1. After dipping with oil, mix the sawdust, grease and silver sand together,
feed the mixture into the pellet and observe the discharging.
2. Drill the material with the electric drill. (Mal-operation will damage the ring
die pore.)
Inner part of the ring die and uneven wearing of the ring die pore can always
be found when granulating. Adjust the angle of inner and outer scraper and its
length to make the even press on the material.

Compression Ratio of Sawdust Material (without grinding):

The above compression ratio is just for reference, the accurate ratio will be
determined according to the trial run of the local raw material.

Cooler:
The cooler used in sawdust granulating is usually the Pendulum Cooler.
Cylinder is the driving part. Lubrication grease should be filled on different
parts of bearing. The oil tank on the BF3000 moisture separator of the
cylinder pipeline. The pressure of the compressed air should reach 0.4MPA.
Check whether there are any impurities in the inner part, the screws are
tightened, the travel switch is in place and level indicators can operate
normally. The open gate should be adjusted before switching on. Two (2)
travel switches on the left top of the machine can adjust the gate opening
size. When the door is closed, the swing arm on the shaft head should be
contacted with the left-installed travel switch. (say the travel switch is in
position.) Manually operate the swing arm of the travel switch, the sound can
be heard when the travel switch is not in position. If there is no sound, then
the switch is in position. Manually operate the swing arm of the travel switch,
the angle will be roughly the gate opening size, then switch the ON/OFF
power. The swing arm lever of the cooler can contact the route of open and
close the gate. Cylinder can work circular, there is no abnormal sound of the
cooler. Try the automatic discharge when the manual operation is in normal
use. There is a mechanical level indicator beside the inspection door of the
pendulum cooler. The swing arm of the level indicator is always rotating when
switching on. First check the discharge relay inside the electric cabinet, set
the suitable time. Switch on the automatic discharge button, open the cooler
gate, stop the rotary vane of the level indicator by some objects. The
discharge gate of the cooler can be open and close normally. Let the rotary
vane go normally, then the discharge gate can close in the right position. By
doing the above practice, the analog automatic discharge process has been
finished. The automatic discharge time and the open size of the discharge
gate should be adjusted according to the detailed requirements during
production.

Many problems will be caused during production:


When the temperature of the pellet does not meet the requirement, suitable
adjustment should be made of the level indicator height. The uneven
distribution of the pellet will also result in the cooling failure. Adjust the conical
distribution device inside the cooler, then evacuate the material inside the
cooler, close the discharge gate and switch the cooler off. Open the cooler
gate, the maintenance person should be able to open the fan to ventilate.
Adjust the conical distribution device on the top of cooler. If one-time
adjustment will not solve the problem, then it will need several adjustment
until the material can be roughly distributed into the cooler. The cooler should

be evacuated before switching-off. If the material remains in for long time,


then the shoveling plate will be deformed. If the cooler will leave unused for
long time, it should be cleaned by compressed air. Frequently check of the
screen to see whether it is deformed or damaged. If there is, mend it
immediately.

Bucket Elevator:
Following points should be complied with before running:
1. The winnowing pan belt should run in the middle of elevator. Adjust the
tension device to make it operate normally when there is any abrasion
between winnowing pan and the equipment body caused by off tracking or
loose belt.
2. The bucket elevator must be powered on without any material. Evenly feed
and smoothly discharge to prevent blocking caused by excessive feeding
and unsmooth discharge. If block occurs, switch the equipment off and
stop feeding. Open the gate then discharge the material.(warning: do
not use your hands to discharge the material). Close the gate until the
winnowing pan can re-operating. Switch the equipment on and feed the
material.
3. The top cover on the head of elevator or the gate of the base can not be
open when operating.
4. Materials can be change after all the material have been discharged. The
machine can be switch off when there is no material in the machine body.
5. Get rid of the residues in the elevator pit.
6. The bearing should be lubricated by Albany Grease and fill the oil for each
2 months.
7. Regular inspection should be undertaken on winnowing pan and fasteners.
If they are loose or damaged, they should be rotated and replaced in time.
8. If the elevator will leave unused for longtime, clean up the remained
material and close the gate.
9. The feeding pit should be covered with grating to prevent the oversized
materials getting into the machine.
10. When operating, the following points should be paid attention:
Adjust the screw, tension the winnowing pan belt and prevent the belt from
off-tracking.
Pay attention to the abnormal sound, if there is, deal with it immediately.
If the return material flow is too large, adjust the position of dam-board.
Check the temperature of bearing, if it is higher than 50℃. Switch the
equipment off and solve the problem.
Check the discharge gate and articulated chute to see whether they are
blocked with other materials. Check whether the winnowing pan is loose, if it
is, thorough inspection should be undertaken of fastening of winnowing pan.

Screw Conveyor:
1. Materials conveyed by Screw Conveyor should go through some
processing at first. Get rid of the oversized and fibroid material to
guarantee the normal operation.
2. Check the blockage inside the machine body before switch-on, especially
the fag end, culm or other fibroid material at the suspension bearing.
Switch on after get rid of them.
3. Do not use your hands or any sticks to get rid of the oversized impurities
or fag end. Switch the equipment off and get rid of them.
4. Cover plate should be covered tightly. Steps on the cover plate are
forbidden.
5. Bearings should be added with lubrication oil to prevent them from
wearing.
6. The elevator can be powered off when all materials are discharged.
7. Clean up the adhesion on blade, case or suspension bearing after
conveying materials with large moisture or viscosity. Such practice can
avoid reducing volume, increasing resistance, large power consumption,

Pulse Filter:
1. The commissioning of pulse director is connected with the switch of
controller. Switch the controller on, the power indicator light is illuminated.
The time intervals should be adjusted by knob around 20 seconds., then
adjust the width to 0.1s. The sound of opening of solenoid valve can be
heard, this indicates that the controlling is normal. If no sound can be
heard, please check the connection to see whether the solenoid or
controller are damaged. Switch the controller off when commissioning is
tested normal.
2. Check the fan. Power the fan on and see there the working direction of fan
is correct. Touch the motor to see if it is over-heat after ten minutes. If it is
not, switch the fan off.
3. Check the air compressor. Adjust the work range around 0.5 to 0.7MPA to
see whether the pipe solenoid is air-leakage. When the pressure increases
to 0.7MPA, the air compressor can automatically switch off.

TWO. Normal Operation

THREE. Normal Operation and Maintenance


1. Switch the air compressor before powering the Pulse Filter on. When the
pressure increases to 0.7MPA and automatically power off, then switch the
fan on. Switch the pulse controller on after the normal operation of the fan.
2. Switch off: First stop the running of air compressor, switch the fan off a
moment later. When the pressure of air storage tank decreases to
0.2MPA, power off the controller. Keep the bag clean and tidy after each
switch-off.
3. Inspect the filter bag regularly, replace the bag when it is worn (along with
the ash leakage phenomenon ).

Fan:
1. If the connection piece is found to be loose, tighten it.
2. Check whether the fan shaft and motor shaft are homocentric. If the axial
endplay phenomenon appears, reset it.
3. The air inlet should be clipped with the impeller. Eliminate clip and
collision.
4. Get rid of the residue on the impeller to prevent the imbalance of the
impeller blade.
5. Check the installation of the inlet and outlet air pipe, see whether they are
fixed and sealed.
6. Check the lubrication of bearing.

Screener:
One. Performance Requirement:
1. Capacity meets the requirement of the equipment specification.
2. Stable operation and without any abnormal vibration.
3. The frame must be on the same level; the dip angle of sieve is 4°to 6°.
4. The length of each wire rope sling should be the same and vertical. The
support board meets the requirement of the specification.

5. Upper and lower screen are installed with reasonable place. Equipped with
screen of different pore to meet the set capacity and quality according to
the sieving requirement.

Maintenance:
1. Regular check of the tension of rubber belt. Replace the belt when it is
worn.
2. Lubricate the bearing with oil and lubricate other place with grease.
3. Complete inspection should be undertaken after 1000 hours running of the
equipment.
4. If fierce vibration occurs, it may be the falling off of the counterbalance,
spindle bending or the damage of bearing. Operator should switch it off
and check it.
5. If there are inferior pellets in the finished product, it may be the crack of
screen or the failure of sealing.
6. If there is significant reduction of the capacity, the failure possibilities may
be as follows: blockage caused by high moisture of the raw material, small
size of screen pore; belt creep; insufficient feeding; wearing of jump ball.

Package Scale:
1. When packing, the package hopper should be prepared with certain
volume of stock to maintain the continuity package.
2. Obvious vibration is forbidden, so as not to affect the packing precision.
3. If it leaves unused for long time, evacuate the material inside and clean
the residues up.
4. The electric part should keep dry and be periodic maintained.

Pneumatic Device:
a. Check if there is any leakage of air compressor or the material keeping
gate is in position.
b. Material flow regulator setting volume (0.4MPA in generally )
c. The sensor should be installed fixed and clean. Clip and collision
phenomenon should be prevented.
d. Replace the cylinder each year, O ring and sealing element (oil seal,
piston ring ).
e. Whether the bag structure is flexible, if the bag is installed fixed.
Remember to replace the rubber belt and high-strength canvas strip.
f. Clean up the air pipe, keep the pipe be dust absorbed. With excellent

Operation:
1. Power on
2. Press the ON/OFF button on the electric cabinet
3. Check whether the set packing weight and speed of feeding material
meeting the requirement.
4. Put the empty bag under the discharge gate, handle the two angle of the
bag.
5. Power the travel switch on, bag clamping machine will clamp the bag
automatically, then the feeding gate opens, fill the product into the bag,
packing finished.
6. The adjustment of the scale and weight setting should be manipulated
according to the equipment specification.
