DEMONSTRATION TEACHING

March 19, 2019

Western Bicutan National High School

Prepared and demonstrated by:

RHODORA DR WANIWAN
Grade 9 Teacher
Lesson Title: Cell Structure and Functions

Academic Track: STEM

Subject Title: Biology 1

Grade Level: Grade 11/12

Time Required: 60 Minutes

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of cell structures and functions

Performance Standard: The learners will describe the structure and functions of major and
subcellular organelles

Overview: The learners play a game about cells

Materials: Multimedia, Digital Microscope, Glass Slide, Iodine Solution 100ml

Overview: The learners will have a review on cell theory and play a game wherein they will
encounter common words in the pictures that will post.

What will I differentiate? Structure and Function of Major and Subcellular Organelles of
Animal and Plant Cell.

How Will I Differentiate? Through discussion of series of cell activities and evaluation will be
given. Students are grouped into two (2).

a. Group A: experiment cheek cell

b. Group B: experiment onion cell

As a result of this lesson, the students will be able to:

a. determine the major parts of the nucleus

b. discuss parts of the nucleus
c. differentiate the structure and function of major and subcellular organelles
d. perform assigned activities

Pre-Assessment:

1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom Management
4. Checking of Attendance
5. Review

Steps in the Lesson:

a. Motivation

The students play a game “FACT OR BLUFF”. There are statements given by teacher
then the students choose if it is fact or bluff.

b. Presentation of the Lesson

The teacher presents cell structure and functions to be discuss by the students. The
students then identify major and subcellular organelles.
Structure/Part Functions Plant Cells Animal Cells

1. Cell A cell membrane Present, made Absent, only plasma

Membrane keeps all the parts of cellulose, membrane is
of the cell inside. found just present
It is the outermost outside the
layer in the animal plasma

2. Chloroplast Chloroplast Present Absent

contains green
coloring pigment
called chlorophyll
which essential in
photosynthesis.

3. Vacoules storage tank of One large Many small

cells; regulates central vacoules vacoules

4. Centrioles Centrioles Absent Present (paired

assembly of
microtubules

division.

c. APPLICATION
The students will be divided into two (2), each group will be given task.

Group A: will perform the experiment of Cheek Cell

• Swab a cotton inside your cheek.
• Swab the cotton to the glass slate
• Dropped an iodine to the glass slate
• Place in the microscope

Group B: will perform the experiment of Onion Cell

• Tweezer the onion skin

• Place the onion skin to the glass slate
• Dropped an iodine to the glass slate
• Place in the microscope

d. Generalization:
The teacher will show the whole picture of the plant and animal cell.

E. EVALUATION

Multiple Choice- Select the MOST APPROPRIATE answer out of the choices given
1. The structural and functional unit of living organism:
a. nucleus b. cytoplasm c. cell d. cell wall

2. The major parts of the cell:
a. nucleus, cell wall and cytoplasm
b. nucleus, cell, and cytoplasm
c. nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane
d. none of the above

3. It controls the enters and exit of cell fluids:

a. Flagella c. Centrioles
b. Cell membrane d. Mitochondrion

4. The large fluid-filled space of the cell

a. Lysosomes b.RNA c. DNA d. Cytoplasm

5. The control center of the cell and contains the cell’s DNA
a. Nucleus b. Cell c. Cytoplasm d. Cell membrane

Classify each of the following statement if true or false.

1. Nucleus is located in the cytoskeleton of the cell.
2. Inside the cell, there is a large fluid-filled space called the cytoplasm.
3. Most cells are very large and can be seen with our naked eyes.
4. Lysosomes sacs of enzymes that digest cellular macromolecules such as nucleic
acid.
5. Ribosome consist of RNA and protein, responsible for protein assembly.
6. Nucleus membrane structure that contains the cell’s heredity information
7. Cytoplasm tail-like structure within the cell.
8. Golgi Bodies responsible for manufacturing, storing, and shipping certain
cellular products
