Summative Assessment Student Directions

This assignment will challenge your understanding of the most advanced

concepts of the unit. All the concepts of the unit lead to this project. In this project, you
will work backwards to create your own system of linear equations, and then
demonstrate how to solve it using three different methods.
Instructions:
1. Draw a graph and pick a random point on the graph. This will be our eventual
solution to our system of equations.

2. Now create two lines that go through this point (Tip: try to pick lines that will go
through the y-axis at whole numbered values, this is the y-intercept).

3. Using the known point and the y intercepts of these lines, solve for the slope.

4. With this information, write the two lines in slope intercept form.

5. Now we have two linear equations and know what their solution is, first
demonstrate algebraically that the solution is correct using two different methods.
(Substitution and Elimination) Make sure to label each method.

6. Finally, use an online graphing tool to graph these two equations. This is the final
method for solving the equation. Take a screenshot of the online graph and
include it in your final project to show it matches the hand drawn one.
